I tend to try not to make "default assumptions" when I first sit down. Basically, there are certain lines that you can take when you are not sure about what kind of a player you're up against. These lines will usually win or lose an "average amount" and are meant to keep you from getting too aggressive if it turns out villain is passive, and to keep you from dropping the best hand if villain turns out to be a LAG-tard. These are the lines we start with, and then adjust as we play more hands and our reads improve.
