Re: Anyone get a real gross feeling while they\'re in a casino?
Playing -EV games is fine with me if you're responsible and having a good time. Maybe it's the grotesque appearance of 75% of the people gambling. The smoke is very bothersome.
I really don't goto casinos too often, so it's something I can live with...just disturbs me to a certain extent. |

Re: Anyone get a real gross feeling while they\'re in a casino?
Years ago, on a trip to Vegas, I woke up really early and went to play some VP at a bar. I was kind of confused because I fell asleep early and it was actually around 4 am. But, with the time change, it felt like morning to me.
I had this skinny old drunk black man in a quasi-leisure suit try to sell me his watch because this machine was about ready to pay off. I told him "no" about a half dozen times before I grew agitated. I was about ready to ask if he would smoke my pole for that 20 bucks just to see the depths of his desperation he was, but I really did not want to know the answer. Pretty freakin' sad. |

Yes, I know exactly what you're saying. Given the choice of supporting California-style cardrooms or giant casino extravaganzas, i much prefer the former. But there aren't cardrooms in New England, so I try to rationalize supporting a business that I really don't care much for.

But there aren't cardrooms in New England, so I try to rationalize supporting a business that I really don't care much for. [/ QUOTE ] I completely disagree. In a big, full service casino, you're much more likely at all levels to get crossover from table games and much more profitable situations at the table ("Hey, I'm bored with BlackJack, let's give poker a shot"). Why is it a business "[you] don't care for"? Don't you see the inherent contradiction in you trying to profit from people who have little understanding of the odds and a business doing precisely the same thing? The truth is that the vast majority of casino patrons are not financially damaging themselves. It's passtime money, no different than money spent on golf, skiing or attending sporting events. To even hint that there's something dirty about the business is to give credence to the nits in DC who want to ban it all. Sure, there are people who ruin their lives in casinos. But take away the casinos and they'd find another way to ruin themselves. |
