Wow, this poll really put things into perspective. It's amazing how much better the Brittish rock bands are. The Who, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and the Beatles would demolish any of our best.

I don't agree; surely bands as Velvet Underground, Beach Boys, Pixies, Talking Heads (with help from british Brian Eno), Niel Young (with Friends) and so on, are not demolished by the greatest british bands.

To the UK bigs you could add bands as, Roxy Music, The Fall, David Bowie (not really a band - but has to be recognized as a massive rock artist), Cure, Blur and the good old Rolling Stones.

But where would they be without the jazz, blues, be-bop, and rock revolution from US 1920-1970 ?

Both US and UK has massive bands. US was there first; but mayby UK is a slight better (or more diversified) i don't know.

Anyway Canada/Australia blows big time (also) in that cultural area compared to US and UK (Nick Cave and the bad seeds, as only exception as far as i see).

how aren't the Eagles there?

[/ QUOTE ]

The Eagles were beaten in the second round, much to my chagrin.

I think this poll proves that

1. America just doesn't produce much in the way of classic rock bands (The Doors and The Eagles are two notable exceptions).

2. The vast majority of OOT'ers are 16-24.

3. The vast majority of OOT'ers have no taste in music.

Correct on all three. I'd add to #1: America probably dominates more in the solo artist category, and in other rock-related genres like Blues, Folk/Rock, Jazz Fusion, Country-ish Rock. But then that isn't as rockin'. Ah fook, might as well move to bloody England.

Yup. I'm surprised no one's doing a "Greatest American Solo Artist" yet.
