Re: Top 5 Things Needed to be a Successful Internet Player
you can be an excellent poker-player with a good bankroll....but if you don't have patience and discipline you stand a very good chance of going broke at some point.
OTOH - a mediocre player like myself with a so-so bankroll (by my standards anyway) can still make it with enough patience/discipline (and I think I am sorely lacking in the patience/discipline department....but compared to most people I'm probably much better than average) I would list patience and discipline as number 1. Sufficient bankroll as number 2. Ability to actually play the cards well as number 3. |

BRAVO to MicroBob and AutoBet for being the only ones
in this thread to get "discipline" right! In all seriousness...it is soooo easy to get caught up in gambling with weaker opposition. The problem is you are not as lucky as they are and will not win with K5 on the river. It is also tiring to take rapid successions of bad beats online, whereas in live play they happen more slowly and spaced out -ZEN |

Re: Top 5 Things Needed to be a Successful Internet Player
The most important concept for solid earnings year in year out is this- know yourself and objectively assess your skill/talent to your opponents.
Playing professionally foremost is about staying in the game ie not busting. You need to understand your own limits-ie risk tolerance, tilt tolerance,multi-tabling tolerance. All these tasks need to be gauged via the skill level of your opponents. Many players play too high too fast with too small a bankroll and end up getting buffeted by swings they usually cant handle. Bottomline for me is making enough money to support my lifestyle in a fashion that doesnt make me a zombie. Top5 -Discipline/Heart-taking beats/long losing streaks in stride -Game Selection -Work ethic-putting in hours -Focus/Ability to Multitask easily -Smarts/Street Smarts ie not just basic poker theory, hand reading/ but you need to be a good gambler- by that I mean you can stray succesfully from conventional wisedom.. specifically as you move up and play more varied games ie HU LHE or any bigbet games ie NLHE. |

[ QUOTE ] you can play pokerroom on your cell phone now. [/ QUOTE ] Would you elaborate? I'm a bit behind on the internet via cellphone technology, but I'd be interested in signing up pokerroom if indeed I can play on my cellphone just as if I would on my home computer... of course minus the screen space and PV and PT running. [/ QUOTE ] I don't play PR so I'm not sure how it works. I do know you can only play limit. |
