I think if you want a prescription you should have to see a doctor.

[/ QUOTE ]

And if he doesn't see a doctor to get a prescription, this affects you how?

[/ QUOTE ]

When he ODs on vicadin or viagra and then his family sues everyone they can name. I end up stuck with a higher prescription cost because the drug manufactuer had to pay out a billion dollar lawsuit

[/ QUOTE ]

Accept the complete Libertarian package, and this situation becomes impossible. Personal responsibility, and no more bullsh*t lawsuits ever.

Frozen,

Your viewpoint isn't new and I hear what you're saying, but it just isn't realistic. I'm in Maine where the opiate addiction rate is through the roof and I know many people that are addicted to opiates.

Trust me, these people are not happy, they spend 90% of their free time looking for drugs and 10% doing them. Whether it's oxy or heroin or dilaudid, the outcome is the same. Life becomes completely absorbed into addiction and depression or overdose is usually the end result. Social prohibitions have always existed. Even in tribal communities hallucinogenic substances are kept for certain purposes, not merely used by everyone all of the time.

LIFE, LIBERTY, AND PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS ...things that used to matter to U.S. politicians.

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't think these things have ever mattered to US politicians. Back when our leaders cared about that stuff they were called "statesmen". I wouldn't deem anyone in DC worthy of that title now.

You can't compare OxyContin to cigarettes Lori. I don't know too many people who are committing armed robbery to get a pack of smokes

It affects me when he is hooked on the drug and is either:

A: Committing crime in my neighborhood

or

B: In a (publicly funded) methadone clinic with my tax $ footing the bill

Lori,

Cute.

Pointless, but cute. There's a difference between any and many.

I hardly think the drug manufacturer is liable when some guy obtains the product through illicit means.

Wow, you've got alot of faith in our jacked up legal system. A guy steps on a rake in the backyard of the house he just got done robbing and seriously injures himself. He sued the homeowner WHO HE JUST ROBBED, guess who won?

The sad fact is that until there is a major political revolution, no libertarian is ever going to see the oval office. It's a 2 party system, plain and simple

I can tell you're one of the many who will not have the integrity to vote his convictions until it becomes 'fashionable'.
