Re: Blade Runner - some questions
[ QUOTE ]
1. Is Deckard a Replicant? According to the book, maybe. 2. Is the Director's Cut better than the original cinema cut No. The original was the director's cut until the director decided there was a good way to double the take by deleting the narration and extending scenes. I thought Ford did an excellent job of narration and the movie is better when it's tighter. [/ QUOTE ] We're not talking about the book - the book has no bearing on the movie. Scott did not "extend" any scenes. The Director's Cut is actually 5 minutes shorter than the original. All Scott did was tighten up some scenes, cut out what he felt was some gratuitous violence in the Pris and Tyrell death scenes, put the unicorn dream in, and snip the happy ending. And, of course, cut all the VO. |

Re: Blade Runner - some questions
[ QUOTE ]
Remember, if Deckard is a replicant - he doesn't know it. [/ QUOTE ] Given that the dialog was not tacked on, I'd say I would lean that way. Without the dialog I wouldn't conclude that he does not know he's a replicant until the end (where I think it is clear he does). |

Re: Blade Runner - some questions
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] ("Why are they so obsessed with photographs?") [/ QUOTE ] The photographs are important - it's a replicant's way of assuring itself 1) I have a family and/or people who care about me, and 2) I have a past. [/ QUOTE ] I was actually quoting (or misquoting) the movie there |

Re: Blade Runner - some questions
I like to think Deckard as human in the movies, because it takes on much more significance that Batty doesn't kill him.
To me, it shows how something man-made can grow so much, it can forgive its creator the injustices it suffers... It's like machine forgiving man. |
