Re: Is human life more valuable than other forms of life
I believe a human life has more value than an animal life.
I dont make this judgement based on speciesism - it's nothing inherent in being human (and there are some human lives i dont value highly - eg someone who will never recover from their vegetative state, yet is kept alive). I believe there is inherent value in a human beings capacity to make moral and ethical choices. That means a human > chimp > blade of grass. So my answer to your question is that most human lives are more valuable than most other animal lives. I believe in absolute moral truths though (clearly unpopular here) and I cant see any logical reason to value human life the way I do without those absolute truths. |

Re: Is human life more valuable than other forms of life
I want to sort of retract my baby comment in that I know people will say a baby eventually grows to value its own life. My point was more in our assumptions about what creatures do and do not "value" their own lives. Ever watch a rabbit run from a wolf on the discovery channel?? They seem to value their own lives quite a bit, and shriek at least as loudly as I might when caught...

Humans are good at life. You hurt them, and they can hurt you back. Animals are weak and easy to pick on.

Re: Is human life more valuable than other forms of life
To me no. I actually value many other forms of life above humans in general. I respect animals, I don't respect the human race in general. We're pretty pathetic.
