Jake Plummer immediatly springs to mind and I'm stickin with him. Delhomme is another good candidate.

Which is funny, 'cause Trent's been better than both of them this year.

I wouldn't call Jake Delhomme above average. He's been really bad this year.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, its been 4 weeks. Culpepper's been pretty bad too.

Exactly. And Delhomme has been very good the last two weeks after an admittedly terrible start. This is only his third year as a number #1 QB. He showed a lot last year with a very depleted offense around him and also showed a lot in the playoffs the year before.

I wouldn't call Plummer average. I'd call him shitty half the time and great the other half. Same with the current Favre. When I think "average" I think Collins or Brooks. I'd put Brunell on there, but I think he's slightly below average.

Roethlesburger is above average. If he has two more years like last, people are going to look at him like Tom Brady. Not very flashy, but he gets the job done...every damn weekend.

Ok fine. Plummer's great 1/4 of the time and shitty 3/4. Damnit.

As an aside to the top ten QB thread, name me the most average NFL QB. It is such a hot button position that I think it is tough to find consensus on what is average, or acceptatble. There are good, or servicable players, and the rest seem to be percieved as bad.

For what is worth, my top ten is:

1. P. Manning
2. McNabb
3. Vick
4. Cullpepper
5. Green
6. Favre
7. Bulger
8. Brady
9. Brees
10. Collins

Many QBs are products of systems, and I try to evaluate each on how they may perform with other teams, hence my lower rating of Brady. If he were the QB of the Lions, I doubt many would think much of him. Put Favre on the Lions this year and watch out for Detroit.

Average = Bledsoe?

If your favorite team drafted a player #1 overall and he had a career = to Bledsoe, would you be satisfied with the pick?

[/ QUOTE ]

Bledsoe's career has been a lot better than average.

i think by average qb they are saying average qb right now.

i think if you just look at bledsoe's numbers he has had a great career. but i think he lived off his college repuatation and his early yrs. he was probably really only a top 5 qb in the league for 3 or 4 yrs.

Plummer and Collins, fine, but the other 3 are above average. Well, maybe not, I mean there are a lot of very solid QBs in the league right now which I guess should make average = pretty good. Either way, IMO, you can't group those other guys with Plummer and Collins.

[/ QUOTE ]

There are 32 starting QBs (guys who would be #1 on their team if all the teams QBs were healthy). I submit that if I'm grouping them by "above average", "average", and "below average", we have to define those categories. Without definition, we'd have ~16 above, ~16 below, and none exactly "average". I'll say there are 11 "above", 10 "average", and 11 "below". Feel free to argue that.

Having said that, here are my groups:

Above Average:
Manning Ind
Brady NE
McNabb Phi
Bulger StL
McNair Ten
Green KC
Brees SD
Culpepper Min
Leftwich Jax
Vick Atl
Palmer Cin

Average:
Hasselbeck Sea
Roethlisberger Pit
Brooks NO
Delhomme Car
Manning NYG
PenningtonNYJ
Favre GB
Plummer Den
Collins Oak
Dilfer Cle

Below Average:
Carr Hou
Warner Az
Bledsoe Dal
Griese TB
Losman Buf
Harrington Det
Grossman Chi
Brunell Was
Smith SF
Frerotte Mia
Boller Bal

They are loosely in order 1-32, but once I was happy with the groups, I didn't worry too much about the order within the groups.
