The Delmar loop and the central west end are both good places for bars and restaurants. You also have to eat on the Hill (old Italian neighborhood with about a million good restaurants)--Cunetto House of Pasta is my favorite place. Fantastic, and not too pricy.

A few more of my favorite places...

O'Connell's is a great Irish pub that serves exactly 5 draught beers and one of the best cheeseburgers in the country. The atmosphere in this pub is good too--very laid back.

Llywelyn's is a Welsh pub in the central west end that has a wide selection of beers and some really good sandwiches.

Fortell's Pizza is a really good place for St. Louis style pizza that doesn't taste like cardboard. Some of the best pizza I've ever had is from Fortell's.

Like Mike said, Ted Drewe's is great. It's almost obligatory that you try it out. Think Dairy Queen blizzards, but with really good frozen custard instead of ice cream, and some pretty awesome combinations of ingredients. Good stuff.

As for the casinos... Harrah's spreads only low limit (3/6, 6/12, and 1/2 NL) hold 'em. It's the busiest room in St. Louis for these level of games. Ameristar spreads higher limits (from what I understand). The downtown boats are crap for poker, for the most part.

The President (on the Missouri side) and the Queen (on the Illinois side) are the two casino boats in downtown St. Louis. The President has a decent size poker room, but on most weeknights there will be maybe one or two tables going of 3/6. I don't know what it's like on the weekends, though--Harrah's (about 30 minutes away in Maryland Heights) is just much better for 3/6 and 6/12 hold 'em, so that's where I play. I don't even know if the Queen has a poker room anymore.

Tues 9/20 Taj has a $300-40 Stud U.S.Poker Open tourney. I think it starts at 11AM. If you're there, jump in.

Fall Classic is October 8-20. No guarantees, but $30/60 stud/8 ran every day during last year's tournament. October 15 might be the only day I can make it down.
