Sure would be nice if the high-water equipment of the Louisiana National Guard and the NG themselves weren't in Iraq, or $71 million in hurricane preparedness for hadn't just been slashed.

[/ QUOTE ] you make good points. Too bad they are over there.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, he makes great points alright. I'm sure all the flood equipment of the La Natl Gurad is in the deserts of Iraq. Sure.

assuming that it was only Bill Gates' house destroyed I wouldn't donate. Regardless, this is a stupid point to argue about(really).

[/ QUOTE ]

Actually the point is dead on. But you failed to provide an honest answer with your "if it wasn't an act of god" line. You wouldn't donate to Bill Gates if his house burned down because he's a whole lot richer than you and he has plenty of money to fix his own house. The exact same answer applies to a hurricane in America when viewed by non-Americans.

[/ QUOTE ]what a stretch. So when there is an earthquake in Japan, do non-Japanese people look at that as "just another billionairs house burning down"? I know we in the U.S. don't. For some reason millions of people being displaced and having their homes ruined, as well as dozens of people dying is the same thing as Bill Gate's house burning down, atleast to non-Americans, right?

[/ QUOTE ]

Nevermind. Abstract thought is beyond you. Go watch some TV or something.

In the end, I would NOT be suprised if this was more like 50-100 Billion.

Not posting in politics anymore, but had to now. What a silly insuniation. I think whatever country calls here (Norway), they will get aid in such a situation. The equipment for running a full-scale mobile hospital and etc. is stored 20kms from the main airport with 24 hour guard, in case any foreign country calls for assistance.

I don't think so. I am thinking more in the thousands or tens of thousands is possible. This is NOT going to be pretty in the end (not that its at ALL pretty now). But the numbers, things that you are hearing now (as scary as they may be) are just the prelude I fear.
