Ive been dealing poker for almost a decade at Harrahs properties. Never has anyone won a hand without two live cards. If you think its cool, come to a casino and throw a card off the table and I promise you wont get a quarter. When youve been around poker a little longer, you will understand

Oh, I certainly understand why certain people want to religiously stick to rules no matter the consequence. I, however, have this funny notion that things should be done in the best interest of the game.

Yeah, throwing your cards on the floor is in the best interest of the game. Let's reward Jr by awarding him a pot when one of his cards hit the floor because he thought it was cool to toss em in the air. Way too much Travel Channel.

meh...give the idiot the pot and give him a warning that if he does it again he will NOT win the pot (and that some rooms would more strictly adhere to the 2 live-cards rule but that you are actually bending them in the 'spirit of the game' since it probably wasn't intentional).

I get annoyed by the posers and morons too. And I know you are dealing with a TON of these guys.
But it also so happens that the Travel Channel idiots and wannabe's are the reason we have such a poker-boom/explosion these days.

I am assuming these were mostly smaller isolated properties where none of the staff is experienced so the entire staff gets 6 months experience 10 times over in 5 years rather than 5 years experience.

Don't you want the Travel Channel players to play in your room. This is a great opportunity to explain the proper way to show down your cards, but to award someone who clearer had the worst hand the pot will cause your new player to go tell all his friends how he was cheated in Vegas/Tunica/or wherever. I would never return to a room that didn't go out of its to accomadate new players.

I agree with all of Randy Refeld's analysis here.

Also note that sometimes, if the card was out of site for a moment, a strong floor might impound the pot and check the deck. He would then award it to the best hand conditionaly based on the deck being correct (e.g., no extra queen present in this case).

You are assuming wrong. If you dont believe me, come to Harrahs and toss your cards on the floor. It happened during one of the circuit tournaments. The player whose card fell on the floor didnt even argue about surrendering the pot. To expect a pot with only one live card shows inexperience on someone's part.

This is incorrect. If you really believe it, go to a casino and everytime you have the winner, throw your cards on the floor. You will not get a quarter and you will not throw your cards on the floor because you know better.
