Re: How much do you bring to play 15/30?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] If you absolutely won't care at all about losing it, go for it. Just don't do what I did. I played (what I think, at least) great poker last year. Along about July, I decided I was going to take a shot at the 15/30 game. I ended up beating it for about a grand in my first session. Yeah, I ran hot, but I made the money by playing right. So with about 3500 in my pocket for the first time ever, I got cocky. I took a shot at the 30/60 at Canterbury, and basically blew my entire roll in two sessions. The inevitable downswing came, my draws didn't come in, and I took some beats. It happens. But I went from having a 6/12 bankroll in my pocket to having to go back down to the 2/4 and 3/6 games just to scrape up some more cash for my broken roll. That's a horror story only a few people knew before now...basically my point is, decide what's more important to you. Do you want to play bigger games more consistently or just gamboool it up for a while? If you're fine losing your profit back, go for it, but for me, I know it hurt. [/ QUOTE ] You should know better. [/ QUOTE ] I learned the hard way, Uncle Milo. I got cocky and it cost me. But I got SSH, and I refocused myself, and am running surprisingly well these days. Never again. Ever. If you see me playing in a red chip game at Canterbury before May 2006, remind me of this post. That story is the thing that has gotten me back on track. It was the stupid shot a kid takes. Nothing more, nothing less. Edit add: I could swear I told you that story the last time I saw you and Will out there. Not one of my prouder poker stories. But an honest one. [/ QUOTE ] You caught your Uncle Milo in a foul mood. Glad you learned from the error. Poker players make most of their money from other players' their false perceptions of how good they are. You fell into that trap. |

Re: How much do you bring to play 15/30?
Well, I finally took my shot at the 15/30 game and found it to be filled with tons of loose and terrible players! I did not expect so many players who merely called preflop that for a while I actually thought it was a 3/6 table! And this fact was confirmed when I took numerous river beats where a guy would call all the way with junk like q5 and hit two pair.
Anyway though, after about 2 hours of play I came out about 400 bucks ahead after buying in for 500 which is one rack for that size game. But, I quit this game mainly because I had started to really notice how much the money was affecting my play as I didn't play as aggressively as I usually would in say a 6/12 game and since the pots would get so large at points, I would worry so much about losing X amount of dollars that my focus would not be on playing my best, but rather on winning the pot and because of this, my usual reading skills were drastically impaired as I spent more time thinking "OH MY GOD, thats a 400 dollar pot" instead of "hmm, he reraised me in position with 2 flush cards on the flop, what could he have here?" But, anyways, my shot at a bigger game didn't have a bad result, but I do feel that I need a much bigger bank roll than I currently have to be able to play my usual game in that limit. |

Re: How much do you bring to play 15/30?
I never feel comfortable without 50 bets. I don't like having to tighten up at all, or have the thought of almost not being able to play in the back of my mind. if I'm going somewhere for a weekend I like to have 100 bb. for a day trip 50 bets is good for me
