Re: TAGs seem to be losing
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] So being loose preflop is +ev? [/ QUOTE ] Look at it this way. If you divide all limit holdem decisions by preflop and postflop, and rank thier importance, the postflop decisions are many times more important than the preflop ones. I don't exaggerate. This doesn't give a good player the liberty to enter every pot, but it does give them the liberty to enter many more that a classicly tight player would; say a bison moneybags. My stats, for example, are 22/10 in full ring. Probably just a little looser even at .5/1. My advice to you (or anyone reading this) is not to loosen up preflop. My advice is to get damn good at postflop play. You will find yourself entering many more pots naturally as a result. [/ QUOTE ] That VPIP is remarkable to me. Are you fairly picky with your table standards? I can't imagine you can play at every table with such a high VPIP. But what do I know, I'm just a newbie. [/ QUOTE ] Another good question is how many tables are you playing? [/ QUOTE ] I play four tables. I thought that was the standard nowadays... |

[ QUOTE ] (I do consider myself one of them, yes) [/ QUOTE ] I'll put the over/under for 'percentage of posters on this board who think this to be true of themselves' at 100%. [/ QUOTE ] FYP (bottomset doesn't count because he doesn't play full :P) |

Re: TAGs seem to be losing
I feel like like everyone who posts on this board (and plays often) can beat the Party .5/1 with a VPIP over 20%. In fact, playing > 20% VPIP is probably the way to attain the highest possible winrate. I would not be shocked if you took a derivative and figured out that the best possible VPIP is 22% or 24% or whatever.

Re: TAGs seem to be losing
As a lot of people have mentioned, your sample size is way too small to come to any strong conclusions. Even the best poker player in the world is going to have a bad day every once in a while. For example, they can have their trip aces slammed by a flush on the river or their ace-high flush rivered by a full house. They played the hands as they should, but got unlucky and now they have a negative BB/100. Bad luck can jump up and bite anyone, that is why you need a much larger sample size to make any strong conclusions. It is more important to look at their play as a whole and not concentrate solely on whether they won or lost during that session. I have found, in general, you can normally say that a good rating = a good player. That's just my opinion, hope it helps.

Re: TAGs seem to be losing
Most of the TAs and TAGs I see lose money overall, but that's just because they're up against me.

Re: TAGs seem to be losing
okay i'm just gonna tack onto this thread as i have a question seeing as i believe myself to be a TAG of sorts and am currently getting crushed....
what is the longest downswing you've had to endure? i don't mean BB/100 but how many hands? i'm at 5k hands for my downswing: seems a bit long to me playing at UB .5/1 and i'm now -1.5BB/100. is this even close to normal because i'm really hating poker now, but i'm looking for some help the other day i kept thinking "man i wish i was a loose/passive or a fish"- the suckouts seem to have no end. i can't seem to find the leak, but i'm really frustrated. [ QUOTE ] what is the longest downswing you've had to endure? [/ QUOTE ] I've played about 65k or so hands total and I've never had a downswing last longer than 3k hands. The magnitude of some of them more than make up for the lack of duration, though. Just keep playing. Things will work themselves out. Your opponent, no matter how skilled of a suckout artist, cannot beat probability over the long-run. |

Things will work themselves out. Your opponent, no matter how skilled of a suckout artist, cannot beat probability over the long-run. [/ QUOTE ] Amen to that. If someone tries to tell you they've never had a losing streak, then they either haven't played very long or they are lying. Bad streaks can last a long time, and when they are happening they can make you feel horrible. A bad streak lasting 5k hands is not unheard of, especially if you play multiple tables. You have to look at it from a Casino's point of view. They don't get upset when someone hits a jackpot because they know that over the long run the odds are in their favor and that most people are going to lose. So just make sure that you are always putting your money in when you have a +EV and eventually the cards will start coming back and the money will follow. Hope this helps.
