Reminds me of another hand I played today that shows you can't rely on stats. This guy was 80/0/.2

Party Poker 5/10 Hold'em (6 max, 5 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is BB with T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].
<font color="#666666">2 folds</font>, Button calls, <font color="#666666">1 fold</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero raises</font>, Button calls.

Flop: (4.40 SB) 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
<font color="#CC3333">Hero bets</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Button raises</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero 3-bets</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Button caps</font>, Hero calls.

Turn: (6.20 BB) A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
<font color="#CC3333">Hero bets</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Button raises</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero 3-bets</font>, Button calls.

River: (12.20 BB) 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
<font color="#CC3333">Hero bets</font>, Button calls.

Final Pot: 14.20 BB

Results in white below: <font color="#FFFFFF">
Hero has Tc Td (three of a kind, tens).
Button has Qd Kc (high card, ace).
Outcome: Hero wins 14.20 BB. </font>

I think neither has a flush or a straight, and neither has an ace. It's a judgment call after that, but I go to showdown too much as it is.

Most likely hand is KK-JJ for MP.

I bet the river once they check the turn. I think there is a very good chance you have the best hand and the turn check looks like a white flag to me granted my views are biased based upon the results. I still bet it and feel its for value.

Thats the only thing in the hand where I saw two possibilities (bet or check). But you are probably going to get called, and usually it would be by a better hand. Everything else is solid.

I hate kurosh's line. If you're going to flop top pair out of the BB with 10-8 off and then check-call-check-check-fold, just save yourself 2 SB's and fold preflop. I have no problem with your call preflop, but I think you butchered it after that.

Bet your hand on the flop and see what MP does. If all these monkeys just call, then go with your gut on the turn. A lot of times I'll bet it again, and if I get raised, I'll reevaluate. Sometimes I'll check the ace and see what happens. Heck, they might've checked through again, which tells me that they have no ace...then I bet the river.

Was there anything about your read on MP or MP's stats that make you think he would only raise super-premium hands here? I'm just having a hard time understanding your logic when top pair is good so often at these 10/20 6max games.

Why is it that we insist on viewing this hand in a vacuum as only being top pair as though all top pairs are created equal? Even if he is leading at the time, his equity is likely pretty low as there aren't many cards that are coming on the turn that he's gonna like seeing. On the flop checkraising 3 players or betting into 4 players does nothing for you. And as has already been stated by others, on the river his hand isn't strong enough to overcall with.

I really don't see what worse hand calls you. I guess you're relying on 88-99, but I think you get called and shown JJ-KK or maybe QT-T9 (much less likely) more often. I like how the OP played it.
