I really don't think this is as obvious as you state. Just because you would cap with 2 pair doesn't mean that other players would do the same. Also, its not that uncommon for people to limp AK.

A lot of players freeze up to a turn 3 bet, because they picture getting repopped and losing 2 extra bets. This is part of what makes this turn play so solid. If hero gets capped here, he can ~97% confidently fold to a river bet unimproved.

You have a very good point. Getting capped here sucks, because we can't fold.

But we have to assign some value to the following possibilities:

1. Villain will check-call a spade river

2. Villain will not cap without a set

3. Hero's hand is good

I'm not sure how much value these possibilities have here. My guess is not much.

KT & K7 still beat me as the second pair would be higher than my 2's...

Opponent also showed strength by raising the turn to protect his hand, a bet on the river is only called by a hand that beats me.
