Re: Flop action - Part 2
I agree that the pot is too big to fold. And, given the position of the flop bettor, check/raising looks pretty good.
I think I like checking here in general. It makes the hand easy to play. If it goes bet-call-raise, check-bet-raise, bet-call-call, check-check-bet, check-bet-fold, or anything else, we have a pretty clear raise, call, or fold, depending on the action. That said, I probably would have bet out, because I'm a compulsive auto-bettor. Edit: Yeah, betting isn't too bad, but in this field, it seems too likely to bet and fold no one, or even bet, get a couple callers, and then get raised. I really like how checking makes the rest of the hand play itself. |

On to the turn
Well, this isn't getting as much interest as I'd hoped, but I'll soldier on.
MP3 betting made me think he was sitting on a jack, as he'd been pretty passive for the little while he was at the table. I thought it strongly possible he had AJ/KJ/QJ, soiling some of my outs, but he could also have a mid-pp and be taking a swing at me thinking that my overcards had whiffed. Here's what happened next: Paradise Poker 1/2 Hold'em (10 handed) converter Preflop: Hero is UTG+1 with Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. 1 fold, Hero raises, 1 fold, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, MP3 calls, 4 folds. Flop: (9.50 SB) 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (4 players) Hero checks, MP1 checks, MP2 checks, MP3 bets, Hero calls, MP1 folds, MP2 calls. Turn: (6.25 BB) A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players) Hero ? My thoughts later. |

Re: On to the turn
You have a bunch of outs 3 ways (not enough equity to bet for value), and since you didn't raise, your fold equity is virtually nil. I like checking and calling here. Had you check/raised, leading would be better.

Re: Let\'s try a play along...newbies\' chance to shine
Here I would just limp in.
A raise won't thin out the field and my hand does not have such a large preflop pot equity edge. By just calling we keep the pot small and we should be able to recuperate the small edge that we passed by outplaying our opponents after the flop. I would surely raise with AK or KQs though. |

Re: On to the turn (MY THOUGHTS)
As soon as I hit call on the flop, I pulled the cat's tail so he'd scratch me for punishment. I had the odds to call, and wasted a great semi-bluffing opportunity by wussing out.
Had I raised the flop, I imagine that betting out the turn would have gotten me the pot. Thoughts? |

And I'm trying to help out those that came on about the same time as I did, or since. I'm seeing a lot of posts asking the same questions I did 6 months ago, that I now know the answers to. |

If you had check-raised the flop and led the turn, would MP3 fold a Jack 15% of the time he has one? Some people would never fold a Jack no matter what you do, others will. But, if he doesn't have a Jack your chances of success go up significantly, so it's kinda tough to say. Still, I think with your cards, that board, and that pot, raising the flop is the way to go. |

Re: Flop action
Here since my hand is unlikely to be best, I would be tempted to check. Betting won't improve my winning chances much (by clearing outs) against 3 loose players and I don't think my hand can win a showdown unimproved. I think I want to draw cheaply to my hand.

RIVER
Paradise Poker 1/2 Hold'em (10 handed) converter
Preflop: Hero is UTG+1 with Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. 1 fold, Hero raises, 1 fold, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, MP3 calls, 4 folds. Turn: (6.25 BB) A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players) Hero checks, MP2 bets, MP3 calls, Hero calls. River: (9.25 BB) 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (3 players) Hero checks, MP2 bets, MP3 calls, Hero folds. Final Pot: 11.25 BB The rest of the hand is not as rife with speculation. When the A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] fell on the turn it made me really wish that I had raised the flop since it wouldhave allowed me to lead out the turn, but c'est la poker. Check-call the turn, check-fold the river. Hand over. Thanks for playing, we have no lovely parting gifts for you. |
