Put 544 and kinda sick now as I went out when I made a set of 9s on the flop. Saw a straight possibility and maybe should have laid the hand down when the villian went all in. JJ . .should I have laid that down? Les [/ QUOTE ] I have a hard time laying down a set...want to post the hand? |

I'm gone. Apparently A3 is a good hand to call 1/3 of your chips, and call the rest when an ace hits, and then suck out a 3 on the turn.

Sadly enough, my 12 yr old son also suggested I should have raised pre-flop. Also sad to say this, but I believe the novelty of the pocket 9s might have distracted me at first from raising. I was too busy laughing at "9 9" since we had a doofus at the table betting 99 every hand. Take em down tonight. Since I got whooped so early I decided to take one last ditch at qualifying for the WSOP. Wish me luck in that endevour. Les |

I'm going to go along with the party line. A raise preflop saves that hand. However, I'm often guilty of playing middle pairs the same way in that situation...set or fold. Once I hit my set I'm not getting out of the way very often unless there is a 1 card straight or 1 card flush on the board.
One thing though is that since there was no raising preflop, I think you've got to put him on two pair, or on at least a strong draw. I still call the allin, but its not a happy call. |
