[ QUOTE ]
when? where? [/ QUOTE ] i think we already covered this in the other thread. You ARE aware that the 2005 WSOP is currently taking place don't you? There is more than just the 'main-event' there. This was in one of the preliminary events at the WSOP. Aggie - nice story. I would seriously have considered not shaking his hand after he pulled his whole 'you are such a horrible player' routine. Seems that every time he shakes a player's and he immediately goes off about how terrible they are so I don't consider his hand-shakes to be a gesture of good sportsmanship in the least. Since he's already behaved like a bad sport around me I would feel zero obligation to shake his hand. I understand that you were just messing around with him though and this whole hand-shake thing is something I have already thought about in advance (for whatever demente reason....I guess it's just from seeing all these other people shake his hand on TV and me thinking "No way would I shake that dick's hand if he did that around me.") I also would have told him, "If luck weren't involved I guess you'd win every one Phil" and probably would have repeated it about 17 times. |

Re: heads up vs. hellmuth: my 10 minutes of fame
As Paul Phillips (I think it was him) so eloquently put in the 2004 WSOP, Phil's like a 9 year old. You wouldn't get angry at something a 9 year old said, would you?

Re: heads up vs. hellmuth: my 10 minutes of fame
I think his antics are worse than what I would expect of any 9-year old.
"I'm so much better than you...blah blah blah." If I had a 9-year-old who threw over a chair or 'performed' by falling on the floor after a bad-beat then we would have a nice little talk about how the other players are trying to win too and we need ot behave better in public when things don't go our way. I played little-league baseball as a kid. When I was in college I umpired LL-baseball for $10/game in the summers. These kids were mostly 10-12 but I don't seem to remember any of them behaving THAT badly. I also don't remember the kids in the National Spelling Bee behaving quite so badly either. High pressure (probably kind of similar to WSOP) and on TV. Obvious disappointment in there and a few tears shed as well. but I think most of your typical 9-year-olds behave better than Phil. And whether Phil really does behave like a 9-year-old or not doesn't mean he HAS to. He's an adult and DOES have the ability to compose himself in public. I don't think there is much of an excuse for the way he acts (says the guy who will probably cry like a baby when his AA gets busted costing him a shot at making the money). |

Re: heads up vs. hellmuth: my 10 minutes of fame
60 minute levels....1500 chips
25-25 and escalating from there.....My tale was right in the middle in terms of when the 78 original tables finished |

Re: heads up vs. hellmuth: my 10 minutes of fame
I really don't think Phil meant any harm....Yes, he's probably less mature than a typical 9 year old in some respects.
We shook hands during the match (at the 2nd break) and Phil said something to the effect of "this is quite a battle we have going here"....I told him it was my 1st wsop event and it was an honor playing with him...and that i was enjoying the chat.... Anyhow, Phil's i believe phil talks for 3 reasons: 1. he loves hearing himself 2. he is a showman and loves putting on an act for the crowd. As soon as the cameras showed up, phil went to a whole new level 3. he wants to intimidate his opponents into playing passive against him |
