Went to the MGM on Saturday night, and they refused to let me play because of my attire, i was wearing a Kevin Garnett Jersey and apparently, it was unacceptable, but i've played there several times and no one has said anything, needless to say i wont be playing there again, plently of other rooms in town will take my rake.

Wow, that really sucks. I was wearing my Willie McGee jersey at Wynn and no one said a word. I can't imagine why a room would care.

[/ QUOTE ]

Maybe he was wearing that and nothing else .

you really don't see the difference between having a "target market" that you pander to and telling people that aren't members of your target market that they aren't allowed to play in your casino?

catering to a target market is creating an atmosphere that your target market finds appealing such as providing food, music, or decor that your target market is likely to enjoy. a good example of this is the uniforms provided to cocktail waitresses. the only way a no jersey policy for patrons would make a place more appealing to anyone is by keeping the undesirable jersey wearers out of the establishment

can you please explain to me how a policy like this makes a casino more appealing to anyone, unless that person is uncomfortable around or just plain doesn't like people who wear jerseys? i just don't see how anyone would care what the other poker players are wearing, unless they really don't want to be around the type of people likely to wear a jersey

is there a certain culture or religion that finds the wearing of sports jerseys to be offensive in some way? does seeing someone wearing a jersey really assault anyone's sense of decency? im sure there are many people in las vegas who truly do dress in a manner that many, many cultures would find "indecent," but i don't think it's the people wearing jerseys

Please take this to OOT or somewhere that people care. The poster said that if you had a shirt on underneath the jersey they would let you in. It is not a discriminatory act to have a dress code, or to selectively enforce one. I'm sure they have a sign up somewhere saying they reserve the right to refuse service to anybody. Stop trying to encite a flamewar.

The guy on my immediate left said he'd placed 24th in the $1500 event that began June 3, and his play seemed to back up the assertion from what little I saw.

Cry... me... a goddamn river. Throw a t-shirt on under the jersey and its all good to go, or so it sounds from subsequent posters. It is far from a crime for a poker room to have basic, minimum dress requirements. The Grand's poker room was extremely well run from everything I saw, and I did see several people in there wearing jerseys (incl. during Game 7 of the Eastern Conf. finals when I was sitting 1-2NL at table 20).

If you're basing your decisions on what those people DO (wear a tank top to your establishment) instead of what they ARE (race or sex), then I don't see a problem. A dress code that's uniformly applied to all patrons is not the same as a restricted country club.

seriously, if the op wasn't wearing a shirt on underneath the jersey and and the players next to him would be exposed to sweaty, hairy armpits on a regular basis i completely reverse my opinion on the matter, this was definitely not made clear by what i had read
