Re: Triple Crown?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Yes, I read it, but it doesn't give justification for not giving it to Gehrig. [/ QUOTE ] "There must have been some anti-Yankee sentiment among the voters, feeling that Gehrig's numbers were in part a reflection of his teammates' skills." [/ QUOTE ] OR how about, [ QUOTE ] In Cochrane's favor was the fact that he not only took over the Tiger's catching duties but was also their manager. He guided the Tigers to a 101-53 record, their first winning record in seven years and first pennant in 25 years. [/ QUOTE ] Reading is fundamental. [/ QUOTE ] And Grove won the pitching TC. |

Re: Triple Crown?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Who? That just seems ridiculous that someone who won the Triple Crown would not also win MVP. [/ QUOTE ] Read here. [/ QUOTE ] From the bottom of the article: "In 1947, Williams was edged by Yankee Joe DiMaggio , who had captured the nation's attention with his 56 consecutive game hitting streak. DiMaggio's numbers were .305 BA, 21 HR, 114 RBI. The vote was 202-201." Williams' numbers were .343, 32HR, 114RBI. (I'm pretty sure I remember this part correctly, it's been awhile since i read the story.) The writers ranked their top 10 candidates for MVP - a player received 10 votes if someone ranked him first, 9 for second, and so on down to 1 vote for being ranked 10th. Two writers disliked Williams enough that they didn't have him in the top 10 that year, and he lost by one vote. |

Re: Triple Crown?
[ QUOTE ]
I would think ARod has a better chance. [/ QUOTE ] A-Rod is a long shot to win the batting title this year. He's having a monster season but I don't see it happening. Hitters are so specialized now that it's really hard to lead the league in both power and average with guys like Ichiro out there. Just my .02, I could be wrong. NT |

Re: .389
This happens every season it seems. I don't see him doing it. It's a long season.
