I thinking your thinking is probably right on. Does good in tournaments then gives the winnings to the big boys in the big game!

Yeah, thats what I was guessing - same as I've read about Stu Ungar; his style works great in tourneys, but far too loose for ring games.

is Hansen an overall long-term winner

Well mmBop was ok, but when they did those covers of Christmas songs, they became long-term losers.

Take a look if you are really interested at the mid to high stakes hold 'em list.

Within the last couple weeks there was a posting that both Gus and Moneymaker were playing online at a 150/300 (or something like that) game against a couple 2+2ers.

I remember some of the thread insinuating the same thing about Gus, but saying Money was solid.

Good luck,

Well then I guess Gus Hansen and the band Hanson have one thing in common then - they both play crap.

Public commentary from people who would know seems to indicate he is on the fishier end of things in big cash games against top pro’s.

But 99% of 2+2er should be happy to be able to play as fishily as he does, so what’s the point?

It was just a curiosity, because he's often touted as having found some kind of Brand New Way to use nothing more than mathematics to spin 9-3 suited into gold. If the responses in this thread have been accurate, then it would seem that he has found a way to do just that in the biggest tournaments, but as many suspected, this doesn't necessarily translate to success in the biggest cash games.

Yes, for the record, I'd love to play as "fishy" as Hansen does. Except if I were granted such an outlandish wish, I don't think I'd be playing in the Big Game .
