Re: Dealer Tips
A lot of people who ask what dealers make already know. Perhaps they are attempting to get some cheapskate to realize that you guys work on tips without having to be “that guy” and tell them that they are being an a-hole.
Unfortunately some people are only aware of poker because of PartyPoker and the WPT. They come to the B&M, don’t know to tip, think that they should dance around and clap when they win a pot, and think that there is a TV camera on them so they should stare down their opponent while wearing sunglasses and a hooded sweatshirt. |

Re: Dealer Tips
I have no issue letting others know what I make as a dealer. I am not ashamed of what I make and how I make it. The one thing that has kept me going all these years is to be sincere in my thanks when I receive a tip. Without the players generosity, I have nothing.

Having spent the bulk of these posts justifying your desire not to tip dealers, you deign to approve of the behavior you will see fit to tip and dare to use a collective pronoun when doing so. It's clear that you don't speak for anyone other than stiffs, and I doubt there is a quality they would ever see fit to tip. |

This guy is a true professional dealer and not some loud mouth dealer who calls everyone a stiff for not filling his tip jar to the brim. But more importanly, he appreciates the players and not the other way around. Got it. |

The one thing that has kept me going all these years is to be sincere in my thanks when I receive a tip. Without the players generosity, I have nothing. [/ QUOTE ] I really appreciate the replys from the actual dealers in this thread. I have made a post before explaining my situation before . (graduating duke in a month, not wanting to go into the corporate world but still wanting to make an honest buck), and reading this thread has only made me more confident in my decision. It is very apparent that the dealers that responded here are satisfied with their jobs and take pride in their professionalism and customer service. All of the advice I have gotten about going to be a dealer has always been peppered with warnings about those not so polite people that refuse to respect the job you do, and this thread is no different. But in the end, as I expected the true professionals rise above this, with the exception of a little name calling. I will probably be PMing you dealers out there for further info about securing a job and such and I hope that you will be as courteous and informative as I suspect you will be. |

Re: Dealer Tips
Even though this is a general response, I'm gonna respond to your post cuz I like your attitude.
I treat tipping dealers like tipping waiters/bartenders: it's realistically a part of the person's wage, but it also should be viewed as the courtesy/gratuity that it is. I'm neither absurdly generous, nor do I tip the minimum possible (aka "the Malmuth"). I tip a buck on pots I win postflop, 100% of the time to the awesome dealers, 75% of the time to the ok dealers, and 50% to the crappy ones. The only time I'll ever consider not tipping a dealer (note: I consider it, but have rarely ever followed through) is when a dealer doesn't give my tip a rap and give me a brief "thanks." Also, when you're in a live game and the dealer gushes over the guy who throws him a red, and gives you a look of disdain when you throw a white... f that, that's garbage. The cool thing is is that the really excellent dealers are appreciative of your tips, and understand that you may be working too. I think there's a place for people who aren't stiffs, but aren't extravagant tippers. My ex-roommate is a bartender. Personally, I think he makes too much for doing too little. Do I think it's an easy job? Hell no! At the same time, I think some people work three times as hard for one quarter the pay. I also think that part of going out is knowing that society gives certain people (bartenders, dealers, and waiters) certain expected recompense, and if you don't like it, then play online with a six pack and a microwavable pizza... ya cheap fvck!!! Any, as always, I think your outlook is cool Al. Dan |

Depending on what part of Arkansas he lives in he could be very close to a casino. Mississippi casinos were a hotbed for poker 8 years ago, nevermind today. With Oklahoma's opening of casino poker the Western border state also has poker. If your geographically challenged, Missouri has had poker to the north for quite some time. Asking someone if they travel to Vegas once a year to play poker is showing your ignorance. I've worked in Vegas and outside 2 or 3 rooms the action is 10 times better in Mississippi than anywhere I've seen in Vegas.

Re: Dealer Tips
I'm one of those people who doesn't like to tip but if a dealer is very friendly, fast, and makes no mistakes at all I will tip and not mind.
