Re: stuey movie (high roller)
Ah thx granny, I've been waiting so long for this movie.
For the very few times I buy a DVD instead of downloading it I'll buy this one. |

Re: stuey movie (high roller)
I also thought the movie was good, but in no way would I call it great.
I've done a fair bit of research about Stu's life, simply because his abilities as a poker player have impressed me more than any other. In reading about him I found that many who were close to him, including his daughter, objected to much of what the movie portrayed. From wnat I understand his daughter's motivation to get involved in a book about her father was in an effort to set the story straight in some way. As for the movie itself, I think casting Michael Imperioli as Stu was 100% spot on. I think if they highlighted his poker career a bit more, like perhaps not ignoring his 2 WSOP wins in 1980 & 1981 completely, it would have added to the movie a great deal. At least the name Stu Ungar was elevated beyond the knowledge of poker hardcore, and for that I am grateful. |
