There are two different kinds of dealers: those who are good and those who are not. You will be begging for the fast, intelligent, knowledgeable dealer who just left your table when you get Bernie who is 80 years old, misdeals every other hand, can't read the board and has to get the entire table to tell him who won, pushes pots to wrong players, takes forever to shuffle, takes forever to make change, and stops in the middle of shuffling to talk to somebody who walks by.

You will almost certainly be viewed as an ass but its not likely anyone is going to attack you or anything. You should at least tip the fast dealers when they leave a buck or two, Mr. Pink.

I have yet to play in a B&M casino but am going to Tunica, MS to play in several weeks and I don't plan on tipping anyone. Will everyone at the table think I'm an [censored]? I work hard for my winnings and giving away money out of every pot you win is just like playing against a HUGE rake.

And it's not like the dealer did anything to help you, he just dealt out randomly shuffled cards and had no outcome on the hand.

I don't buy the whole "he deals well" argument either. That's his job, that's all he does is frigging deal cards, he better be good at it. I've dealt hundreds of hands in home games and have had maybe 2 misdeals.

Dealers don't make a lot without tips. I think its around minimum wage at most casinos. If players did not tip at all, good dealers would have no incentive to deal for a meager salary and would seek employment elsewhere. Players must tip to keep the good dealers dealing.

Dealing in the casino is harder than at your home games too. In casinos a lot of players act like dicks and will chew out dealers for virtually no reason. Dealers in casinos also have to keep track of a lot at the table and it's easy to make a small mistake that can ruin an entire hand. Good dealers must be rewarded so they stick around.

Go shoot some hoops or I'll be forced to whoop you up. Also, you better be at Cbury if I go up there with dougiefresh, then I'll teach you all the intricacies of tipping

dealers can absoulutely "deal well." certainly, it is his job, but just as any other profession, some are good, some aren't, but they all have the same occupation. one that deals well will keep the pace of the game going, keep everyone the table feeling as comfortable as possible, and make very few mistakes/misdeals. those that are in this category certainly deserve a tip, perhaps a bit more if they are exceptional. i also agree that dealers that do their job poor (even if they are new) should not be tipped as much.....they've gotta learn to do their job well if that's what they want to do.

I tip $1 or $2 all the way up to 40/80, with $1 being more frequent. If I feel a dealer did an exceptional job or was particularly pleasant I will throw $2-$5 his/her way after his/her half hour is up.

sounds like you should tip just for being an Ass.
do you tip cocktail waitress? or how about when you go out to eat? bartender?

my point is dealers get paid a low rate since they will get tipped just like other waitstaff.

Now I do not tip every pot I win But will uaually tip them at the end of their down.

peace

Sitting to the right of the dealer in a 4/8 game I was the BB. All folded to the CO who raised. SB folds and I call and lead out on the flop with zilch. The CO folds. Dealer rakes the itty-bitty pot and slides it to me. There was hardly anything there and earlier I tipped her $2 from a large pot I had won so I decided to not tip this small win.

As she is shuffling I place my $2 SB out there and she smiles and says, "Thank you very much" and knocks the table with it as she slides my SB into her tip bag!

The players on my end look at me and I just shrugged and smiled and put out another SB! I think she had done this before in her dealer days, but she was a cutie so I let it go. Her being a good dealer was a big part of not saying anything.
