rule 1 of tourney poker... don't call off all your chips on a draw?
gutshot straight and flush draw looks pretty good, but you still had lots of fold equity here. |

I don't blame you for going all in though given the payout skew, but I'd rather take a stance elsewhere.
Pot was t60k, and you'll have to call 165k to win. Edit: you do have the pot odds to call, but I still don't like it, especially with another guy behind you who has yet to act. Code:

pokenum -h jc 7d - 4h 7h -- jh 6h 3c Holdem Hi: 990 enumerated boards containing 3c Jh 6h cards win %win lose %lose tie %tie EV Jc 7d 529 53.43 452 45.66 9 0.91 0.539 7h 4h 452 45.66 529 53.43 9 0.91 0.461

|

People were folding to your pf raises, and each time you steal the blinds you add ~20% to your stack. As it happens you were about even money. But how about against a better flush draw? Even if we add 6x into his range of possibilities, you're significantly behind on average. Try to get your chips in as the aggressor if you're going to get them in with a weakish hand like your 74 here. (Speaking of which, a preflop push here would've been a little aggro but not entirely out of the question.) |

I definitely feel like I made the wrong decision here. My biggest mistake was acting too quickly, I think if I would have though about it for another 10-20 seconds I would have layed it down. It was my first time making it that far and I really learned a lot from it. I will never forget this mistake so I feel fortunate that I came away with a great lesson. I was also lucky that it was not for truly life changing money. I really appreciate you guys take on the situation and after I looked at all the variables it is an easy fold due to the table and my stack.
Thanks again, Jason |
