There is little doubt you can make 2 bb/hour in these games. The players are truly awful.

you would have to be a lot better than a GOOD player to beat a 3/6 game with a $5 rake for 2 bb/hour...
BUT, paying $10 an hour in rake is not 1 BB in a 3/6 game.

[/ QUOTE ]
Where are you getting this $3/6 game with the $5 rake? The only $5 rake I saw mentioned in the thread was a $5/10 game which is what I was discussing. $10/hr in rake is exactly 1 BB and definitely beatable.

try reading my post next time and who it was addressed to before you quote it! it had nothing to do with the 5/10 game mentioned. I was answering a specific question about when rake becomes less damaging based on the limit of the game.

And it amazes people i know that i don't post on here.
with some exceptions, 2+2 = know it all

Unless you're earning like 10 - 12 big bets per hour, you're not measuring up and should find another hobby.

Just kidding, of course. The point when you can have any real confidence that your personal win rate is worth comparing to any offered "realistic win rate" is so far, far off if you're playing B&M games and have logged 19 hours so far that whether the answer to your question was -3 BB, 1 BB, or 5 BB is almost meaningless until years from now. No matter the standard offered to you, your own sample size won't be anywhere near large enough to allow yout to draw any conclusions from it.

Of course I know 19 hours is not enough of a sample size. I was just being somewhat sarcastic. I strive for the 2 BB though. Even if it's unobtainable, it will force me to play my best at all times.

Rake is an important aspect when choosing a game, an increase of $1 could easily turn a winner into a loser.

I hear about places with $5-7 rakes on 2/4-10/20 tables and i cringe.

[/ QUOTE ]

by that rationale, I should stop tipping the dealer or else I will be a loser?

I've always counted the JP drop as money gone. The EV is so low for it consider it a miracle if you hit it. However, if a regular donator in the room hits it, you will get some of it back that way. I still think the EV is negligible for the most part.

[ QUOTE ]
Other things being equal, I would much perfer to play in a non-jackpot game (unfortunately, my regular game does have a jackpot).

[/ QUOTE ]

I think a place having a JP, given the limit you play actually qualifies as some higher limits don't in some rooms, helps the action on some tables. People will play lots of hands they may not normally play trying to hit a JP.(including monte carlo JPs)

Or maybe they'd find some other reason to play that loose anyways. It'd be an interesting study to compare, if possible, if there's a difference.

1 BB/hr is probably a pretty good win rate for this game.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is a very good winrate for this game. A $3 +$1 JP drop is a huge cut in a 3-6 game. Especially when the game is generally slower moving.

Losing 2/3 of a big bet is significant. Compare that to 1/5 of a big bet on a loose 10-20 and it really shows. Figure the best guys on 10-20 average about 2BBs an hour. Their rates would be much less on the 3-6.
