Re: Raymer almost robbed at the Bellagio
Greg,
When I did a quick search on the internet for news about this I was afraid you might have run into this guy: [ QUOTE ] Re: Psychological Factors and Mental Toughness Posted by: Big John (jhartz@jps.net) Posted on: Monday, 15 November 1999, at 5:52 p.m. I seldom steam anymore. Part of this can be attributed to experience, part to an understanding that bad beats are unavoidable when you are consistently taking the best of it, and part of it to the fact that I built a little three cell prison in my basement and whenever someone puts a really sadistic bad beat on me I kidnap their butts and take them home for some reeducation and torture. Believe me when I say that after surviving a two or three week stay in my little reeducation center, most of these people will NEVER,EVER put another bad beat on me. Ask Ray Zee sometime what he has been feeding those three grizzlies that are constantly hanging around his Montana cabin? [/ QUOTE ] Seriously though, I can't see arguing with a guy with a gun. Glad you're ok. |

Re: Raymer almost robbed at the Bellagio
This warrants that Greg Raymer should now be called "the toughest poker player around."
Greg Raymer is a hero and an example to all you punks out there. When it comes to defending yourself or your family, you gotta be a man not a coward! A toast to Greg Raymer! |

Geez. If a guy with a gun doesn't intimidate you I gotta remember never to try and bet you out of a pot if I see you at the table.
Seriously though.. Glad you're ok and taught the punks a lesson. |

[ QUOTE ]
Second, by the time they showed me the gun, I had also gotten very good looks at both of their faces. I thought that even if I cooperated, they might decide to kill me anyway so I couldn't identify them. Given those two thoughts, I continued to fight. [/ QUOTE ] Legendary. j00 r0x0r3d their b0x0rz! |

Re: Raymer almost robbed at the Bellagio
Wow you are nuts! A gun?? I guess since you saw their faces and you thought they might shoot you anyhow, but [censored]. If you only have 500-1k is that really worth taking the chance of getting shot?? Especially if you can identify them later? I'm all about being a man...but I'm all about being alive to live as a man as well.
Great story regardless and glad you hear you made it out ok. I hope those punks get what they deserve! |

Re: Raymer almost robbed at the Bellagio
Holy [censored]. Good to hear you're ok. That is all.
What some people will go through to get money never ceases to amaze me. Yeah robbing a WSOP champion in a freaking casino. Nobody would find out right? edit - wait just a sec. when did this happen greg? if it happened like a week ago like the guy who first posted this said, why haven't we found out about it until now? |

Re: Raymer almost robbed at the Bellagio
Well done Greg. Glad everything worked out okay.
To all those who think casino-security is so fantastic that you have ZERO chance of being robbed you need to get REAL. the depiction that a "casino robbery is virtually impossible" as is portrayed in Ocean's 11 is really ridiculous. In Tunica last summer....there was a group of robbers who pulled of 25 heists in just a few months. Eventually the major players were caught I guess....but, geez, they just kept hitting different casinos. It would appear from their success that it's not THAT much different than a bank-robbery. The travel channel and discovery channel shows on casino-security and 'catching cheaters' etc make it look like the camers are everywhere at all times and someone is ALWAYS watching you as well as watching out FOR you. This just isn't true either. There are only so many cameras...and so many eyes....and they have a whole bunch of tapes to constantly be changing up there too (if they haven't gone computerized yet). There have been dealers who have dropped 1 or 2 black or purple chips into their picket for months and months before eventually getting caught. The point is....BE CAREFUL. People get a false sense of security in these places.... "There's security EVERYWHERE. I could never get robbed." While it is more unlikely you would get robbed inside a casino then, say, walking down a sketchy street....there still is no reason to think that it CAN'T happen. The cameras are around.....and they can go to any part of the casino and hotel generally and, if they see something, they can be zoomed in on anything/anywhere....but they CAN'T be everywhere at once. It just doesn't happen. Again....I'm glad that everything is okay for Greg here. And he obviously has some sort of clue based on the fact that he wasn't carrying too much cash on him. I'm not saying robberies are easy there. But they ARE possible...even by clueless people such as the one's Greg was dealing with. I'm hoping some others out there realize that Ocean's 11 was FICTION and proceed with some caution and common-sesne. |
