Actually, his opponent had flopped top pair as well. If I had T8 here, on the turn, the check-raise would be a VALUE raise and to protect my hand against overcards, not a semi-bluff.

I think if you can fold to the 3-bet, it's an auto-raise. Otherwise it's close. Personally, I can't lay down to a 3-bet, so with no read, usually I call. But then again, I'm weak.
