I pretty much agree too.
Fischer Random Chess was a great idea...the back pieces are shuffled before each game. |

Seems like I always played against the sicilian, which I hate. [/ QUOTE ] I hate all the openings by now. |

[ QUOTE ] I will see if I can get curtains' to post here. He is 2+2's resident chess god. And it isn't close. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah that guy who beat Novikov barely knows how the horsey moves. [/ QUOTE ] Correct, curtains owns me (though we never actually played). But there was a British IM (International Master) who made about 15 posts. He tried to stay anonymous but disappeared after I figured out who he was. I hear he has his own poker website now though, I will have to check this. |

You couldn't play the Latvian against my e4 either: Bishop's Opening, or Vienna Game/Gambit. I suspect playing 1.e4 e5 2. bc4 f5 is semi-suicidal for Black.
Anyway, I like your opening choices better than those hyperanal openings with the fianchettoed bishops. Probably those are actually better but chess is too tedious anyway IMO; may as well make it a little more exciting. So cheers to Gambits and Claassical Chess! (P.S. please take the Pirc players and King's Indian players out back and shoot them). |

I just love the name of random chess moves, especially when they involve Eastern European former soviet bloc countries. is there a move called Stalin's Revenge yet, because if not I'm going to study chess and invent it. What the fu[/b]ck is a gambit anyway?

A gambit is where you give up material (Usually a pawn) to get a good position. (In the opening I believe) The reason so many people played Magic: The gathering was because it was as close to random chess as they could find. Lori |

I don't mind the Pirc players, the Qe2 lines are exciting as hell for white.
I can play about anything except d4 comptently as white, and as black either go sicilian dragon, e6/b6 junk against white or QID/Nimzo stuff against d4. And go play on FICS, it's free and good fun. |

I really liked Magic: started in Tempest or the edition prior to it, and loved the speed decks over the next few editions. Put it on the shelf when I realized that they would forever be changing the rules, and when I saw that the pace with which they came out with new editions was so brisk that to keep up would have required more dedication than I was willing to put forth.
Still have my Sligh, and black, and green speed decks, and another deck or two I concocted and another deck or two now forgotten about;-) It was fun; just really wish Wizards didn't have to churn out so many new editions so fast to make money. |

Whilst I agree entirely that this is why they do it, it is also pretty much required at the higher levels to keep the game fresh. It is no coincidence that many of the better poker players who post here are ex pro-tour players on the MTG circuit. Lori |
