Spydogs plan looks best and pretty similar to the path I followed, I've played 3k hands at 5/10 now and i'm in the black, I don't find the games terrible difficult compared with stars 3/6 a little more aggression but generally more loose bad players.

I went:

.50/1 full
2/4 full
NL $50
5/T 6max
10/20 6max.

Not only is the NL $50 an ideal stepping stone between 2/4 and 5/T 6max bankroll and profitwise, it really improves your game: you learn what "value" is really all about.

Pokerstars $2-$4 and $3-$6 6max were my regular game for several months--please notice the verb tense. I haven't played much $5-$10 at Pary yet, but so far it looks softer than the smaller PS games. It was like somebody suddenly turned the volume way up (thanks for the analogy, Mason). All the time at PS I was beating myself up for not getting good reads on my opponents. Then my first day at other sites I suddenly noticed all sorts of mistakes and patterns. That's when I realized the players at PS simply weren't making the big mistakes I was looking for.

What do you guys think about Crypto's SH games?
I could play there $2/$4 or 1/2 (pounds) (basically the same) before moving to $5/$10 at Party. Are the games different than at Party? What I saw was that players at the Pound tables are more passive compared to the $ tables, a lot of calling stations.

1/2 6 max -> 5/10 6 max

1. You need a reasonable bankroll. I had a 200 BB bankroll when I took my shot. That was probably foolhardy - but it worked for me. I started with 70 BB as my shot. If I had lost it, I would have stepped back and built up the bankroll again.

2. Definitely play at Paradise - both 1/2 and 3/6 5 max. 5 max is a slightly different game, and very worthwhile. I have found both games very sweet.

3. You can play 2/4 and 3/6 at Poker Stars - but they really are a bit tougher.

Thus my recommended strategy:

1. Start with a mixture of Party and Paradise 1/2. Once your bankroll reaches around $2k, I would start mixing in Paradise 3/6, still playing Party 1/2 for more experience.

2. I would play around 20k to 30k hands prior to considering 5/10. The point here is that you need to experience a variety of players and situations before you move up to 5/10. 5/10 is a different game. The swings can drive you crazy at first. You need enough experience to understand if you are losing due to a bad run or bad play.

3. I like the idea of "taking a shot". I would designate a set amount of money for that shot, and pull back if your shot fails.

Good luck!

Soft games. Play the pounds or Euros tables. $2/$4 6max is soft also IIRC.

learning full is useful too, i went .5/1, 1/2, 2/4, 3/6, 1/2 short for like 2000 hands, 5/10 short, back to 3/6, to 5/10 short, back and forth between 5/10 and 10/20, and now am just finishing my first week at 15/30. The truth is that if you win at any reasonable (read at least 1/100) rate, bankroll requirements are not an issue really, it's judging if you're good enough to play that level.

(took me a year and a half to go from .5/1 to 5/10 short and about 2 months from there to 15/30 full)

After playing about 6 months of sit n go. I switched to ring games. My 1st shot at 6 max I played 1-2 absolute and lost over about 2500 hands. Started reading the SH forum and switched to party 1-2 did well. Switched to Crypto and played about 40,000 hands of 2-4/3-6 pounds and dollars. Also played about 5000 hands at PS and Prima. (Won't go back to Prima but a good spot to take down the good sized bonus at GC and get some experience at a higher level. Also a very good comment about BR grows faster then skill. BR was way over 20k before I thought I was ready.I finaly took at shot. 1st session lost 50BB but by that time I was confident enough and had enough of a BR not to played scare. I now have over 5000 hands at 5-10 and have done very well.
The diff between Party and Crypto is very diff. Crypto playes more like a full ring game. I did much better then when I played more passively. Party 1-2 plays more like party 5-10 then a Crypto 3/6 or 5/10.

Default Anyone have experience with Pokerroom 3/6 5max...

and can compare that to Party 5/10? I tried some 3/6 5max at PR on Monday, it is looks like a game I can maybe do OK at. Can this be a stepping stone?
