I think building up a good data sample size is a pretty worthwhile thing all by itself. It can help set you straight on what to expect from the game and yourself. Even 5,000 hands or more can be misleading and very streaky.

You can always refer back to that data if you doubt yourself and your abilities when you move up, to help keep from going on tilt or getting too bummed out and ineffective if you hit a bad streak or earn slowly at your new level, and it reminds you that going back is always an option.

Plus, you might find yourself getting data and reads on other players at lower levels who you see again at the higher ones. It's kind of interesting to see if they've changed their game or not.

Since I got poker tracker:

PStars .25/.50: 1634 hands / 13.67 BB/100
PartyP .50/1.00: 438 hands / 12.43 BB/100

i really should play more often.. BTW, is there a way to combine my btspider(PS) and btspider(PTY) usernames in pokertracker? you can only select one player id under preferences.

EDIT: (saving clutter) Thanks. That did it. I must be blind to have missed that.

Try the 'Aliases' button under the player description. I've never used it, but it looks like that's what it's for.

I start off at PP with the $50 - I think they kicked me a weak $10 sign up bonus (they dont give enough freebies). I struggled at the .5/1 and got the bankroll around $175. I poked my head in for a couple of 1/2 games but couldnt keep up with the aggressive play. Then a losing streak took over an almost cashed out for me. Luckily I worked it back up to about $100. I started playing the $5 and $10 SNGs and got the roll up over $400. Cashed out $75 to blow on some crap and have struggled since then. I consistently build the roll up on some good SNG's finishes in a row then enter a few multitables and work the bankroll back down taking a few shots at a big win. Havent hit one yet but have come close a few times. The 30 person $30 are easier than the huge 500+ entrants - but winning those big prizes would be sweet. Should I settle down and work the bankroll up or keep taking shots (when I could be dead money)????

After I got PT (which helps greatly) my stats gfor .5/1 are:
2164 Hands

-2.2BB/100 hands
Total loss (47.02)

Tournaments
215
1 29
2 26
3 24
Won 172
paid 2133
ITM: 36.7%
ROI: 8%? Is this $won/paid? I dont know?

It looks like, after all that, the only real winner is Party Poker. I read those kids make $30+ mil a month. Nice! I think the only way to make the real money is to get in the internet gambling business. Anyone want to start an offshore internet gambling site and make some real money? Let me know - I will kick in my entire bankroll.

Party .5/1: 17469 Hands / 5.0 BB/100
Party 1/2 : 2936 Hands / -1.8 BB/100

Clearly struggling to make the leap. I'll play another 10,000 at .5/1 and then move up. Or I'll move up once I feel comfortable.

I think me spending a little extra time (37k hands) at .5/1 was a very cheap way to hone my skills while still slaughtering the game. This made my transition to 1/2 (not worth spending a ton of time here) easier than my transition to 2/4 feel like home and just raking in the money.

I started playing January, but was away for about 4 months, and started again this May. I fooled around with the low blind NL games, and now I play mostly .25/.50 limit on stars. Here are my stats:

5,157 hands, 4.94 BB/100. Total won: 127.45.

I lost a lot playing NL though, and that has set me back a bit. I plan on moving up when I have 300 BB of the next level, which will be .5/1. However, the NL setbacks may be helpful to me because I don't really think I am ready for the next level yet--reading many posts here, I have realized my thinking has been off in a lot of ways.

Well my stats this month have improved:

0.5/1: 3974 hands, 6.46 BBs/100
1/2 : 2001 hands, 9.12 BBs/100
2/4 : 167 hands, 3.07 BBs/100

I'm trying to identify my leak in 2/4 and I think it may be hands like this:

Paradise Poker 2/4 Hold'em (10 handed)

Preflop: Hero is UTG+2 with A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
6 folds, CO calls, Button calls, SB completes, BB checks,

Flop: (4 SB) 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (4 players)
SB checks, BB checks, CO checks, Button bets, SB folds, BB folds, CO folds.

Final Pot: 2.50 BB
Main Pot: 2 BB, won by Button.
Pot 2: 0.50 BB, returned to Button.

I'm confused -- it says you're UTG+2. According to the hand history it looks like you folded pocket Aces. If that's the case, then yeah, that's a leak.

I've been all over the map playing various games since winning $15 in a UB freeroll in April ... Played 11,000 hands of $2 buy-in NL and worked the roll over $100, and a couple decent stabs at $25 buy-in NL (I know, I never should have with such a low roll) got me to about $160 by the start of this month.

My plan had always been to switch to .25/.50 limit when I got the needed 300BB roll (even though I feel I'm a better NL player, I also feel it's important to go through the grind learning to play limit well). So, after playing 50 $5+.50 NL SNGs and finishing slightly down (I won't even get into how frustrating that's been, since I think I'm better than my results show), I made the commitment to play limit.

So, here are the (very early) returns.

UB .25/.50 limit
Hands - 2,162
Total win - $29.75
BB/100 - 2.75

This is misleading ... I was up $31 through my first 330 hands thanks to a huge rush of cards, so the jruy's still out on how well I'm actually playing.
