Re: You\'re talking to an abyss
Well Saddam DID CALL FOR JIHAD against the USA with a full front page newspaper ad (I believe around Christmas Day 2000. So much for your "didn't threaten the USA" pronouncement.

Re: You\'re talking to an abyss
You'd probably have to look to the public statements of the great aggressors of the 1930's to find equally absurd pretenses to self-defense.
Saddam said (on 12/24/2000, later reprinted in Iraqi papers) that Iraq had no WMD, pledged to cooperate with the Security Council and UN inspectors, and predicted "that the outcome of the inspection operations will be a big shock to the United States, and will expose all American lies." Insane madman that he is, he also questioned whether these efforts would work, because "the headquarters of evil have begun looking for a new means which may in any way break our people's steadfastness and capacity to maintain its Jihad for justice." So here is his call for "jihad," which you think entitles the US to instigate mass killing: "The principles and teachings stressed in our Holy faith in Islam and called for by Jesus Christ, Peace be upon Him, require us to pause at them and derive from them the great meanings of confronting the enemies of Allah and humanity, in order to please Allah Almighty, satisfy our conscience, and achieve our noble objectives and honorable aspirations. The road towards this end and to deter the injustice, aggression and wickedness of the evil-minded is the road of Jihad and struggle, through which we can achieve our aspirations, and towards we endeavor to establish the truth, spread justice and peace, and spare humanity the evils of aggressors, criminals and traders of slogans which the world has proven that they lie in their calls for them especially now that the covers have been removed and the truth exposed." These statements were widely broadcast in the right-wing press as a call for "holy war" against Israel or the US, often accompanied by some anonymous report about imminent WMD. All just part of the mass media propaganda campaign. |
