calling stations are great as long as you have two things
1. patience
2. The ability to swollow a really bad beat.

other than that, in the long run you will smoke the table

actually he wont smoke the table. he said if the guy would have raised he would have raised back. after seeing this it is unlikely that he is a winning player himself. but i will reserve that, as its 4,8 and full of really bad players so he may win after all but not because he plays good.

a calling station is someone that calls all the time with the worst hand, not someone that is passive and plays with what he thinks is a good hand.

What exactly do you mean by "old geezers" and "old farts"? Are they around 35 or somewhere north of there?

[/ QUOTE ]

I've never heard a 35 year old be referred to as a geezer. I would assume 60s and 70s...

Some of us are older than 35.... some of us are not too far off from 60. The nick GreyWolf.. what does that tel you? Just keep in mind that some people you might consider to be a geezer are the same peers you discuss strategy with here at 2+2.

TT [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] - 4 more years and I'm 40.

Doesn't sound like this guy is a calling station in the true sense of the word, but more of a TOM (Tight Old Man) who is passive although it is impossible to tell from just one hand. Usually even calling stations will raise big pockets like that. You play against them by stealing their blinds, naturally avoiding them because they play few hands and respecting their raises. If you would have check-called for one bet each round you were in for the same amount anyways and if he raises you and is a TOM, you should seriously think about getting out because they rarely raise without something better than TP/TK.

This weekend was the first time I was there. (Usually I play at the Trop) I looked at the board and they had a $4-$8 game going so I asked to play it. I did notice they had 3 or 4 $3-$6 games and 1 $6-$12 game.

Interesting. It wasn't going Monday when I was down. Lately it seems to me they've been having trouble keeping 6/12 games open. On Monday we went to just 1 6/12 table at about 8:00. Maybe they're trying to condence their game limits to 2/4, 4/8, 10/20? Would be nice if did something like having only white play as well :0)

That was my first thought as well, however why would someone make up this claim?
