I make double playing poker online what I make at my job (granted my job blows and I don't get paid crap), I play about 5000 hands a month (which 4-tabling gives me about 250 hands per hour or in short 20 hours a month playing poker) and I've never put more than $100 down on a table at once.

[/ QUOTE ]

Wait, you make double playing poker than you do at your job and yet you only put $100 on the table? Uh, so you make like $8 an hour working?

I assume you have at least a bankroll of 30,000 to be playing 75/150, if not the recommended 45,000? (300 BB's)

[/ QUOTE ]

I would never plan to play 75-150 on such a short bankroll.

I'm curious as to why 500BB's is required as opposed to the standard Mason set with 300BB?

Cheers,

My guess would be because the games are tougher. And also probably get short handed a lot of times. But, that is just my guess.

Honestly you should have a bankroll of $100,000 or more when playing in games like this.

more thoughts on bankroll requirements and staying within your 'psychological' and 'emotional' bankroll:

yup.
actually I probably wouldn't play 75/150 even with $100k....but I guess it's possible I might take a shot or two.
Probably 50/100 would still be my max.

At 30/60 playing 2 or 3 tables I believe it's pretty common to have $1k or more swings every few minutes.
$10k (up or down) in a full day of playing is possible.

(2+2'er I know who finally gave the 20/40 and 30/60 games a try with his $40k bankroll made $10k in his first day...but said the swings were just draining him. He took more frequent breaks just to keep his head on straight.)

I think it was the 'jennicide returns' thread in NVG forum where we had a brief discussion of bankroll requirements for 100/200.
I believe daryn mentioned that $150k should be the minimum to think about playing 100/200 on Stars.

The opponents are generally going to be tougher and the swings will be more substantial.
The game will be short-handed (or even heads-up/3-handed) quite a bit.

There's also been a lot of discussion in HUSH (and other forums) about 300BB being a bit on the light side even at the lower limits.

If I were to play 50/100 I would want to be in a position where I could say, "Well...I only dropped $10k today. Not my idea of a good time...but coulda been worse. I'll get 'em tomorrow."

Basically, my rule of thumb is that I have to be prepared to drop 100BB's very quickly...otherwise I shouldn't be playing that limit.
So if dropping $2k is something that would get to me (just psychologically) then I know I should NOT be playing 10/20 on that day.

Not only can a $2k drop VERY easily happen....but if I know that dropping $2k would suck THAT badly, then I can be pretty sure that dropping just half of that (only 50BB's) would probably effect me more than I would care to admit.
