Re: Baseball and the wildcard

[ QUOTE ] Wildcard + imbalanced schedule = fuckng awful. [/ QUOTE ] This is 100% true, they are totally contradictory. [/ QUOTE ] What do you do about this then? Interleague play isn't going anywhere. Make the interleague play not count towards the regular season record? Then you are playing an exhibition in the middle of the season. I'm sure the likes of Gary Sheffield will love an idea like this. Interleague = good for baseball, but bad for 'fairness' |

Re: Baseball and the wildcard
I hate interleague play and think there should be none of it. But if you must, just have everyone play everyone the same number of times and be done with it.

Re: Baseball and the wildcard

If you can't win your division, you shouldn't be in the playoffs. and San Diego should? What about the Red Sox the past two years? Clearly one of the best 6 teams in baseball. Baseballs pre wild card format was awful. [/ QUOTE ] And what about the mediocre teams like the marlins in 97 and 03 actually winning the WS?? Do we need teams like that winning the title? You don't need a WC to set up fair playoffs. The wildcrd was implemented for 1 reason: more money for MLB. |

But the constant rape of small-market teams by large-market clubs is part of what keeps baseball a distant second to football in terms of popularity, in my opinion. [/ QUOTE ] D-Rays are 9-4 against the Yankees this year. The smallest payroll is 9 and 4 against the biggest payroll. |

Might I say that you are a poser? You only put that Mussina picture up when he has a good outing. You take it down almost immediately after he gets shelled. Just a typical bandwagoning Yankee fan.

Re: Baseball and the wildcard

the next best thing would be having a DH rule one way or the other across both leaugues. [/ QUOTE ] I can see why this appeals to some. But the rule gives each league a separate identity, something you don't see in other sports. I think that makes interleague play (of which I'm not a big fan), and especially the WS a bit more intriguing. |

Re: Baseball and the wildcard
[ QUOTE ]
Back to the point... I think the wild card is a good thing, but I wish it were a little harder for the WC team to win the whole thing, like in football. Unfortunately, I don't see how this can be done effectively without allowing more teams in the postseason, which I definitely don't want. So the current system is ok, but I will still bitch about it when I feel like it. [/ QUOTE ] This would be easy to fix. 1) Have the WC play against the best division champ regardless of division. 2) Have that divisional series start with the WC trailing 1-0 |

I'm sure the likes of Gary Sheffield will love an idea like this. Interleague = good for baseball, but bad for 'fairness' [/ QUOTE ] Interleague play could be made better. I propose the following: 1) Realign into 6 divisions of 5 teams. 2) Play everyone in you own division 18 times Play everyone else in your league 8 times Play each team from one of the other leagues divisions (on a year by year rotating basis) 4 times. This is 162 games. Unlike the current schedule, this schedule is balanced within each divisions (i.e the Red Sox and Yankees play the same teams the same number of times). As for the imbalance in the wild card race, I say so what. A team that misses out on the wild card for any reason has nothing to complain about. If they wanted to make the post-season, they should have won their division. |
