Re: America\'s Biggest Enemy Within............
[ QUOTE ]
I don't see why people would mind getting searched if you have nothing to hide. [/ QUOTE ] A man on the subway said this same thing in the local newspaper when queried about subway searches. I almost threw the paper, and if it had been my copy, I would've ripped it in half. This is such a "Please oppress me" sentiment - I don't put that much trust in government not to take liberties (in both senses) with such notions. |

Nightmare ...... sheesh ...... we already have a nightmare. When we have one like you're envisioning than we can address it. Protecting innocents is what this is all about ..... you are too concerned about protecting those who aren't it appears to me.

No, they won't. They will say, "What is the problem if you have nothing to hide" or they will say "Think of the children." [/ QUOTE ] Excatly. First it's your backpack, then it's your car, then, there's no need for a warrant to search your house because "if you have nothing to hide, why would you fight it?" It's a slippery slope to go down, and unfortunately, we've already started. |

Re: America\'s Biggest Enemy Within............
[ QUOTE ]
Do you think searching Grandma's shopping bag from Macy's is really going to make you safer? Do you think the government pawing thru every free citizen's back pack is going to be sucessfull? Don't think the terrorist will adapt to that tatic and do something different? [/ QUOTE ] This is the point of the whole "statistical" profiling that I have pointed out. We shouldn't be searching grandma's backback or a 5 year old's handbag, thats is a total waste of money. We should be searching people who might acually be terrorists like middle eastern men, granted this will most likely never happen because the govt will get sued like crazy. Will terrorists eventually adapt? Most likely but you have to do something about this problem. You can't just do nothing and have the police do random searches on grandma. |

Re: America\'s Biggest Enemy Within............
Then you might want to stop and look at the ACLUs lawsuit.
Their whole position is, since it is random searches and not targeted, it won't do any good and therefore you shouldn't be infringing on people's rights to be left alone doing something you know won't work. The government knows it won't work -- but it helps keep the fear pumped up. |

Re: America\'s Biggest Enemy Within............
The AlCU will create a lawsuit over anything. If we did this "statistical" profiling they would also create a lawsuit saying were infringing on those peoples rights, which has happend many of times when you single out a group of people.
I don't know why eveyone has this thing about the government and them trying to promote fear. Fear is bad for the government because it's horriable of the economy. It's the news stations trying to keep the fear alive if anyone is doing it. |
