Re: Crazy bets by pro gamblers
“How long do you think it takes to drink a professional Frisbee full of beer? People say, like, one or two minutes. So I bet them they can’t do it in 15 minutes. Try it. You can’t do it. You can fit about five cans of beer in there.”
You can fit 3 beers in a frisbee. This is known as a 'full tilt' among frisbee players. I have seen it done in 45 seconds. -kyo |

[ QUOTE ]
For 10 grand, I'd live in downtown Baghdad for a month wearing I [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] GW Bush t-shirts everyday. [/ QUOTE ] I doubt it. Not that you'd do it, which i DO doubt, actually, but that you'd live. |

[ QUOTE ]
Any serious runner should be able to run a mile in 4.30 ... the world record is 3.43! And 26 x 4 1/2 = 1h 57m which is under the marathon record. He'd lose if he offered that bet to anyone who was genuinely an athlete. [/ QUOTE ] Wow. Wow. All I can say is--Wow. |

Back when I was in good shape I ran a 4:01 1500 which equates to about a 4:20 mile, and doing a 4:30 definitely wasn't easy for me. It was almost as tough and exhausting as doing a 4:20. Even if the criterion for me were upped to 4:45 I probably couldn't have lasted much more than week at this without major fatigue and serious risk of injury. |

[/ QUOTE ] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [ QUOTE ] If you believe this you are very naive. EDIT: Huck Seed once accepted a bet that he could not run a 4:30 mile with a year of training. He ran 4:36. That is both impressive and a lot farther from 4:30 than you think. [/ QUOTE ] I'm sure Huck has some extensive running experience. If Huck bet that he could NOT run a mile under 4:30 THEN he would NOT. He would make it look good, but get paid off everytime. If the bet was he COULD break 4:30 I think he would have found a way. You are correct 4:30 is a long way from 4:36. It would probably take more training time than most would / could invest to shave off another 6 seconds. Of course the size of the bet probably has lots to do with the outcome. |

Re: Crazy bets by pro gamblers
How about 400m at 7 am, 400m at 12 noon, 400m at 4pm and 400m before going to bed? 1 minute 7 seconds to do each? That sounds a lot more doable, and Hansen could split it up even further than that.
That's why it's a good bet. It looks too easy. |

[/ QUOTE ] yeah, starting from a standstill 16 times a day is going to wear the body down hard, and it also hurts the times more than people realize. 8 instalments of 200 or 4 installments of 400/day would be a lot easier Gary |
