Re: How many buy-ins must you lose before calling it quits for the day
[ QUOTE ]
the best thing to do however is to just not look at the cashier or PT to see what you are at for the day. i have stopped doing this altogether during a session. nothing good has ever come from it. [/ QUOTE ] I said this a while back and ppl said i was silly. These days i take it further and i go a week or more without looking. |

[/ QUOTE ] I've managed to stop looking at PT win stats too often, now I actually check my ptbb every 5K hands or usually more rather than waaay too often, but I still open up the cashier window every 30 minutes, mostly because I hate it when big losses sneak up on me and all of a sudden I'm down 150bb from losing a string of small pots in a row, and I actually think I'm just down a little bit. |

[ QUOTE ] I've managed to stop looking at PT win stats too often [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] go a week or more without looking [/ QUOTE ] What the hell is the problem with looking at your stats ? [/ QUOTE ] I meant the specifically dollar related win stats, I avoid looking at ptbb/100, hourly rate, etc. I generally don't have much use for VPIP/pfr/aggression stats, I have found that even when I am playing awfully those stats stay fairly constant, my vpip has never left the 20-22 range and my pfr has never left hte 10-12 range. I guess w$sd might change, but it is probably not significant over the short term. |

[ QUOTE ]
Once I lose around 5-6 buyins I realize I'm playing [censored] and thus I take a 5 minute break before moving up to higher stakes to make money back faster. This plan is fullproof. Q.E.D. [/ QUOTE ] You sir, are my hero |

Re: How many buy-ins must you lose before calling it quits for the day
it depends. if you're playing well and it isn't changing your decision making processs, then it really shouldn't matter. if you're not playing well, or you are tilting, it should.

Re: How many buy-ins must you lose before calling it quits for the day
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] I've managed to stop looking at PT win stats too often [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] go a week or more without looking [/ QUOTE ] I don't get it either. While I'm playing I have my PT stats open and visible on my 2nd monitor so I can see what my VP$P, hands played, pfr, and $ won looks like. And it updates every 3 minutes. If I'm down big it gives me a challenge to play smart(er) and make a comeback. If I'm up it gives me confidence and my decisions are way easier. And also, how can you not look at neteller/cashier for 1 week? I'm too paranoid someone's gonna steal my money so I check everything at least once/day. What the hell is the problem with looking at your stats ? [/ QUOTE ] |

Re: How many buy-ins must you lose before calling it quits for the day
[ QUOTE ]
i dont have one, but ill take a short break if i drop 5-7. doesnt mean im done for the day though. just a month ago i lost 5.5 buyins in the afternoon. played again at night and made 9. i used to be worthless if I was down > $10k, but i have gotten much more comfortable with it and can still play good +EV poker. [/ QUOTE ] Good post. I've finally gotten to this point. The other day I started my session massive tilting for the 3rd time this month (I don't get why I've done this so often this month but anyway). I was stuck 6 buy ins at the 1k's and ended the night down $700 (at one point up $3000). |
