In response to his post i know where he is coming from. I will fold an AKs on the rag flop as well.

[/ QUOTE ]

But will you open fold it when it's been checked to you like the OP??

In all fairness, folding AKo on a raggy flop after it's checked to you because you'll give your hand away if you bet an Ace or King that comes on the turn, is the most stupid poker-related thing I have ever heard.

Thanks for the laugh

I second that. Now all I have to do is find this guy.

and you fold an unimproved AK when its checked to you because you don't want to give your hand away if an Ace drops?

You need to not just read the words. You need to understand and apply the concepts. SSH is a very complicated and tricky book. The author wants you to think about how you play, not just follow ABC poker patterns. Go through it carefully and my apologies for being harsh but your post was one of the most original I've ever seen.

And right about here is where your post lost all its credibility...

[/ QUOTE ]

Well at least you this was on the second to last sentence. I know that my knowledge does not approach most of the posters here and that is why I come here to ask questions, credible or not. I just have problems with this hand post flop when it doesn't hit and I am looking for how to play it in this situation. I see it as a hand with little future if someone has a pair of 2.

as in 50%? a hand that has little future is one that is folded without when it's free to check.

in sshe, how many outs does miller say AK to a rag flop have? you read it every day; check and report back. that's how much future it has.

Yes I am finding the game and the book to be a text. I have been doing my best to understand the concepts rather than memorizing plays, etc.

As for being harsh, well I am here looking for knowledge not for a dose of feel good. If I am being boneheaded then it is in my best interest for someone to be up front about it. Thank you for your input.

Always folding AKs on a rag flop is a mistake.

Always staying to the river with AK high is a mistake.

Somewhere in between these two extremes is correct, and learning to evaluate when various courses of action are correct will improve your game by leaps and bounds. Your question is way too general for specific answers, but SSHE and experience will teach you how to better evaluate these situations. Not all opponents and rag flops are created equal.

I thought your post was a joke, but now I can see that it's a genuine question.

So first off, since you are a beginner, please post these questions in the Beginner's forum if you don't want to take this kind of heat. I'm not trying to be cruel here; just trying to save you some grief.

Secondly, the fact that you have rags on the flop is even more reason to bet out because you probably have 6 outs to the best hand. If someone shows a lot of strength, then and only then would I consider backing down even if the pot odds don't quite give me what I need.
