If you want to win (or even place in) the tourney, and don't take the chance to double up when you are in all likelihood have a significant advantage over your opponent I don't see how you can fold here. Players might go all in with a lot of hands, especially if they are unseasoned. Anyone who has a hand strong enough to go all in at those blind levels to just win the blinds is overbetting their hand. Their is no way you should go all in with even AA pre-flop to win the blinds. It just isn't worth it, and you are not getting the value out of the hand.

KK is dominant over every hand except AA. If you believe the player could have gone all in with AA, KK, QQ, and AKs then it is obvious that you should call. How often do you get the chance to enter a pot with a significant edge and have a chance to improve your relative chip position that much? Think of the advantage you take now having twice as many chips as everyone else!

How can you all say that this will never happen?

In Super System, Doyle said something to the effect of he's seen 2 people bust on this very situation and he believes it is incorrect to call. If it never happened and he didn't believe it was an important concept, it wouldn't have been included in the book.

UTG I'm not sure. Late pos, I call this with Ks fully expecting my opponent to turn up Queens or A/K. How many people realy make this play with aces? I'd be less surprised to see pocket 4s than aces based on the "average" player these days.

okay, maybe I just fold. Nobody really wants to bust out on the first hand...but I dont think too many players push aces here.

"Think of the advantage you take now having twice as many chips as everyone else!"

This advantage is pretty small, you can't win on the first day and having 20,000 chips as opposed to 10,00 with the blinds at 25-50 isn't going to matter much.

Good, me too. Here's an even more difficult test: When was the war of 1812?

I call everytime with KK. I am not good enough to fold KK preflop.

[/ QUOTE ]

KK is behind the mix of AA, AK and KK.

6 AA hands (18% chance to win)
2 AKs hands (66% chance to win)
6 AKo hands (70% chance to win)
1 KK (50% chance to win)

7.1/15 = 47% chance to win.

And if you only include AKs, AA and KK, then you have a 32% chance.

TJ is right - KK is not a big enough hand to get broke with all-in preflop early in a tourney.

Clear fold, unless you are in a rebuy, or know for certain that your foe will raise all in with less than AA, KK or AK.

If you push with AA in every tournament you enter, you will get called by KK about 99% of the time at any time in the tourney for any amount of chips. You will get called by QQ I would guess 75 to 80% of the time and AKs about 65 to 70% of the time.

Problem is that those hands wont be out there enough to make pushing in all situations a viable option.

Do you play poker?

Peace

Why do you put the person on that tight a range of hands? Pushing with any holding here is pretty awful, so why are you thinking an awful player is pushing with only AA, KK, or AK. Yes, you get burned when they have AA and are hoping to catch someone with KK who will call, but that is a horrible play from the guy who has AA's standpoint.
