Re: I completely agree
Maybe if they let me swing a stick at people who river me, I'd love poker more.

Re: If bankroll wasn\'t an issue, what would you be playing?
That is your opinion but guess what? I don't agree.
[ QUOTE ] You play poker for money, or there's no point. [/ QUOTE ] Now that is plain WRONG. |

You play poker for money, or there's no point. [/ QUOTE ] I don't know what your situation is, so don't take this the wrong way. You're telling me that someone of your intelligence makes more playing poker than you could in some other field? I highly doubt that. There must be something else that attracts you to poker other than the money. Like I said, I don't know you, so I could be wrong. Justin A |

Justin A [/ QUOTE ] Man, this post is loaded, LO-DED. OK, seeing as you have been gracious enough to issue not one but TWO disclaimers, and seeing as there's at least one backhanded compliment, I will reply to this post, FWIW. As I said, the biggest appeal is the fact that a person can be self-employed AND make a decent living without being a proctologist or dental hygienist. I don't HATE playing poker. I simply don't really like it very much anymore, like when I was younger. I remember REALLY enjoying everything about it. In retrospect, I sort of didn't know what I was doing (which is OK, since nobody I was playing with knew how many cards were in the deck), which is what made it really fun. It was mysterious and fun. Now, it is not. Think of it like that really hot woman you've been ogling at the Starbuck's or wherever. After you trick her into dating you, then dupe her into shagging you, then moronically ask her to move in, then find out WAY too much about her...well, it just ain't the same. You start fantasizing about your less attractive, but COOLER girlfriends. You know--the ones you treated like [censored]? But I digress. I have owned and operated several successful businesses, making a nice, comfortable living. Good for me. Can I make the same money playing poker? Yes? No? Probably? I don't know. But all things considered, it's not as bad as the business world, or hiring, training and managing a staff, or any of the other miserable aspects of a conventional job. It just isn't a waterslide or a golf course. It's a JOB. Oh well. |

Quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You play poker for money, or there's no point. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now that is plain WRONG. [/ QUOTE ] Odd. I was only saying that the word "play" should infer that there is a competition of some sort involved, and that the way we keep score at the poker table is MONEY. This is what makes the game have a point. I suppose if you play for matchsticks, you might be said to be playing for "fun," but ultimately, you're always playing for whatever you consider important, be it money or pride or prestige or cigarettes (should you find yourself incarcerated, God forbid). Are you saying that you play just for the sheer love of playing? Because if this is true, I envy you. |

Re: If bankroll wasn\'t an issue, what would you be playing?
I'd probably spend most of my time in Canterbury's $6/12 game but with more emphasis on drinking. I'd also make a couple of trips out east each year to play some high-limit stud.

Re: If bankroll wasn\'t an issue, what would you be playing?
[ QUOTE ]
I would like to think it would be the same limit I am at now as it is the highest limit I can beat at the present moment. Screw that like somone said earlier I would be on the tournie circut playing the best and donating money like it was going out of fashion. [/ QUOTE ] Why? I just don't get this. If money is not a concern, then why are you caring about it? Who cares if you lose money, it doesn't matter! What the intial post was getting at imo was what poker games are the most fun. Obviously most of us play the most profitable, not the most fun. But if profit didn't matter to you(you had so much money that an extra 50 million or so is useless), then which games would you play just for the sport of it. |
