Default Re: Egyptian Chips = Ugly?

[ QUOTE ]
Very true, they're not that attractive. They're Chipcos. Chipcos are ugly. Therefore the egyptians and the suits are ugly.

I think of these chips like trying to polish a turd. However much you polish it, it's still a turd. The egyptians and the suits are the BEST chipco chips I've ever seen, including all the ugly crap they make us play with in casinos. Thinking about it, Fins might have made the best looking set of chipcos around.

I'm just a clay man. I'm still not going to start a whole new thread to slam someone's chips. Hell... I use nexgens.

[/ QUOTE ]
IF a chipco is a turd, what does that make a 11.5 gm dice chip?

I wouldn't call chipco's turds, I find them quite appealing. I don't even try and compare them to a clay chip. In fact I tink everyone should own a set of both. While different I still love the sound of my ceramics.

As for the designs. Obviously I love the suits. AS for Ten's Chips, I don't think I would ever consider buying his chipco's. Just not my style. I don't like the way they look, but I do KNOW they look good. The design is flawless. It is well thought out and well executed. They are not ugly chips. They are just not what I myself would buy.

While still not hooked on the egyptian theme, the clays are very appealing.
Ten is dead on about the theme of the chips. It's what ties it all together. That's why is first set was so great and why his clays are going to be even better.
The hard part for me is a theme subtle enough that I know I will like it forever.

I realize the effort put into the design and was aware that setting up a custom paulson set is very pricey and only possible for a huge group of people

and I did notice and appreciate the detail of using a different design on each denomination. and I realize the importance of a "theme," i don't think anyone would design some chips with some random non-related designs on each chip, and of course when organizing a group buy you cannot cater to everyone's tastes. however, I feel it's almost a "waste" to make another set of egyptian theme chips with your expert organizational and design skills when i think a "fresh" theme would probably be able to gain more support, but i read elsewhere you have some crazy thing for egyptian stuff and have egtian tatoos etc. i also notice everytime someone mentions something about the egyptian "theme" being done you seem to take offense and you shouldn't, you're organizing it, do what you want. Also, it's foolish for people participating and who like the design to call the op an "asshat."

Yes yes, "if i don't like the design, make your own...etc". This is in no way an attempt to try to persuade you to change your design or whatever so that I may participate in the group buy. I'm quite aware of the group buy and have no interest in the theme and have not posted or made a comment on it, but i felt i'd just add my 2 cents here since someone started a thread (which i don't feel was malicious in any way)

I'm not necessarily interested in paulsons specifically. they are new back on the market and it's exciting but there are only 2 other options for them besides this, more designs will probably come out eventually, if you are in love with paulsons. I don't like the trademark chips, but don't really mind the JB ones at all and can get those for around 90 cents if i buy 1k (no pm's please)

I just think this group buy is unique because of the paulson factor and probably winning over some people due to that fact alone. I think i read in the other thread you considered TRking and some other chip makers for a second, i didn't really read all the details of why paulson was chosen finally, but I think if you were using TRking or something most people can do themselves within reason, another egyptian group buy would not be as popular.

sorry if you took offense to me calling your chips "pyramid chips," {it wasn't intend) and felt the need to explain things to me like I am dense.

I hope to find an off the shelf theme i am fond of at a reasonable price, but it might not happen so I am looking into designing my own simple, custom set. I don't even know why really, I just like chips. I play in casinos and online but just want a nice set of home chips for goodtime drunk chip spewing game with some buddies even though they probably wouldn't notice or care lol

I'm not sure why I felt the need to type all of this. I mean no offense. just a late night, unable to sleep chip rant lol. Once again good work on putting it all together and good luck.

Thanks smoore & jojo!! I appreciate the compliments.

I think it's just a matter of taste. Whether it's for the art or the style of chip. I'm sure you're not the only one who doesn't care for the theme but I still think it's hard not to appreciate the nice work... I think they turned out great. I understand as the Eyptian theme's not for me either... although the new Paulson clays are mighty tempting as I don't think there's a better design out there even if it is Egyptian (not counting some pricey fantasy hard to come by sets). Some folks just hate Chipcos and although they're not my preference I still like them alot, obviously . Part of what drew me to go custom was how nice the Egyptians turned out and not that the design appealed to me... really Miksen's chips with a simple design is what got me going on the Chipco route... his & Johnny5's are two of my favorites! My design & the lack of double spot clays (not to mention ridiculous waits) pushed me to Chipco over my clay preference.

I think the excitement that is apparent is an appreciation of quality chips & design work that can be done with the right motivation & obsession ... you have to admit octagons & plaques are cool!

I guess in short... they're chips what's not to love!

I don't like most of the chips out there, but I will simply not buy them. Slamming them is very low class. Ten has said before that these are for him and he's just letting everyone else in on them. I wouldn't doubt that if he designs a third set by a different manufacturer, it will probably also be an Egyptian theme.

I was looking into custom chipcos and then decided I didn't like chipcos. Then I saw the suits, one of the few chipcos I like, and bought some. Different designs on each chip would have cost me too much to justify.

What motivation do you have for slamming his chips? If you don't like them, shut up and move on.

I think both sets of the Egyptians look fine, hell even very good, they're just not to my taste. If you don't like the Egyptian theme or dislike ceramics in general you're never going to like the project. I just don't get the purpose of the initial post.

another has a Communist Russia theme.

Why would anyone play poker with communist chips? Poker seems like one of the least communist activities one can engage in. Shouldn't anyone spending $1/chip on communist-themed poker chips be giving that money away for the greater good ?

The OP is foolish for starting the useless post & so are you for supporting it.

Really? You're right, starting a thread with the title "Egyptian Chips = Ugly?", just to say "these chips are really ugly - I don't like them" is quite benevolent.

By all means, have & express your own opinion, but these kinds of threads are unnecessary IMO.
