Would the rake $, as a % of your winnings be a better gauge?
In a business I owned the materials cost was about 25%. Some jobs higher, some lower, but overall it averaged about 25%. Payroll, and associated expenses, also at about 25%. And so on for every other cost item. We were looking to maintain about 10% pre-tax net. In this particular industry, annual surveys kept everyone informed about how comparable size companies were doing and we could compare every cost item. What I'm getting at is, consider the "privilege," as you call it, a cost of doing business - your overhead. If your gross is 100k, yeah, 55k is a large part. But, what other expenses do you have that get charged against the gross? I don't have any idea how serious players keep their records, but it might be interesting to compare the % rather than the $. |
