im saying, in general, i dont like lines that allow you to make a mistake that will cos the whole pot.
specifically, i dont like the riv raise. |

I'm not sure I like the river raise here. UTG has gotta believe you have an A b/c you raised pf and then popped him on the flop. Once he 3 bets, he's trying to tell you that he's not afraid of the ace. He also bets the turn and river. Once he bets the river, your river raise will knock out hands that you beat and hands that beat you will 3 bet. The only exception to this could be hands like A5, A6, or A7 but I don't think they will 3 bet this flop vs a pfr.
Maybe I have the wrong philosophy here but when the pot gets big like this and I have a decent chance of winning on the river, I tend to favor the conservative line that gets me to showdown rather than raising and folding to a reraise. |

krishan,
i like your thought process alot in this hand. pushing these kind of edges will add up to alot in the long run. my only concern is that you didn't give (or didn't have?) any reads on his aggression. that is, i think the play is dangerous against a maniac, but against anyone else i really like it. there are also some meta-game considerations. you need to use this kind of play sparingly, because especially in the aggressive SH 10/20 games you will find players who will notice a move like that and try to take a shot at you later. of course, for the most part this is a wonderful thing and will make you even more money. but it just means you can't be folding to 3 bets on a regular basis. |
