Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercial and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consumate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far much more bitter, cynical sense of humor. In '87, Huey released this, Fore, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.

First Vinyl was given to me; Ghostbusters - Ray Parker JR.
First tape was Huey Lewis and The News - Sports

This is kind of funny, because Ray Parker Jr was sued for the tune "Ghostbusters" by Huey Lewis because it was a rip-off of "I Want A New Drug," which is on "Sports."

BTW, I think the first CD I bought was Bob Seger, "Nine Tonight," but I can't really remember.

I joined the Columbia House record club. 8 albums for a penny (double albums count as 2). I remember I got five, so I got 3 doubles. The ones I remember are:

Who - Quadrophenia
Stones - More Hot Rocks
Yes - Yessongs (3 counted as 2)
Steely Dan - Pretzel Logic (They shipped the quadrophonic version)

I have no idea what the other one was, it was probably R&B or Jazzish.

Cassette: Frank Zappa - Weasels ripped my flesh

I never owned an 8-track.

CD I think was Pearl Jam - Vitalogy. I was a late adopter of that technology.

my first tape was black flag's "who's got the 10 1/2?" followed by RHCP "uplift mofo party plan".

By album you mean CD, right? No way you were buying vinyl at that point.
