You are statistically more likely to be mugged just about anywhere else in the USA than in Vegas. Worrying about it is as dumb a thing as you could do, unless you feel compelled to wander down dark alleyways in the warehouse area. If you were to actually bring a gun, any experienced crew would not only rob you, they would shoot you with your own weapon.

The pirate show at Treasure Island, I thought, is long gone, replaced by the "Sirens" which is a babe fest extraordinaire. Pickpockets dont usually work on camera, but if they want to try TI, I'm sure the security office there would appreciate the momentary challenge. If there were any pickpockets ever working that show they are probably fertilizing cactus trees just outside of town.

Vegas is super-safe. If you make an absolutely enormous pass at poker, basically emptying a 100-200 game, then the casino will help you to the cashier's cage where you can get a lock box. Tell your mom, quit watching so much TV.

Default Defense against pickpockets

I just picked up credit card & passport pocket safes in preparation for my trip to Vegas (only 9 more days before we leave!): Magellan web site.

The passport safe is a little less convenient for cash than I'd hoped it would be, but I should still be able to carry some bills in it. The credit card safe will be excellent; it only has slots for 3 cards and an ID, but I'm not planning on taking more than that, anyway.

WTF kind of cops do they have out there in vegas? That guy should have been getting the living [censored] stomped out of him inside of 30 seconds pulling that crap in the middle of an intersection in broad daylight. Do the cops just stay out of that neighborhood or what?

Oh, and for all you gun control people, I suggest you watch this a couple of times. This is what's out there.

Run the bum's ass over. That'll learn him.

Yeah as soon as he moved around to smash the back window he would have been under my tires.

Now that I rewatch it. There is a bunch of [censored] all over the side walk though so its not like he could just drive up onto it to get into good position.

He'll mug you out of your chips without use of a gun or other weapon of violence.

Like in any city, keep your eyes open and your wits about you. The casinos are usually crowded. I carry a lot of cash with me and I'm old and frail looking, never had a problem. There will be plenty of targets in Vegas for the muggers who will have more cash than you and will be older and slower. Tell your mom to relax and enjoy giving you your present.

What's this got to do with guns? Some water brained mouth breather starts beating on an ugly car with a stick and you are going to shoot him? You'd hit about seven other people before he wrestled it out of you hands and used it to assault your wife. There would have been no loss if the driver of that crap heap had run the nut case over, but Mr. Crazy would have crossed about a million $$ to his stack in court. What are the cops supposed to do? Appear out of thin air whenever some doormat loses it? Here's what the cops would say...just drive away.

A gun fight. You guys crack me up.

I'm gonna have to disagree. If I had a gun and some crack head came and attacked my car with a pipe I'm shooting him, not because I think he should get the [censored] away from my car, but because you have no [censored] clue what that guy wants from you.

I'm shocked that the crack head didn't knock the drivers head off.

Briefly, carrying a concealed weapon is a gross misdemeanor ("first offense"), unless you have a Nevada permit for that specific weapon and the casino has not posted a "No Firearms" sign at the entrances.
