Seriously to quell any bitching, just use IMDB. Ghostbusters - Comedy/Fantasy/Sci-Fi.

[/ QUOTE ]
I thought you wanted it included?

[/ QUOTE ]

I do. It clearly says comedy first?

I can't explain why Cannonball Run, Fargo, Hudsucker, Club Dread, and Rocky Horror should be considered comedies because I can't figure out why they wouldn't be.

[/ QUOTE ]

Not to go off, but one of them isn't a comedy for the soul fact that it wasn't funny. . Im the world's biggest super trooper mark. By lord did Club Dred suck.

I know it ain't got a prayer of winning, but to say it's not a comedy is...well, I don't know what it is. I don't understand it at all.

And I thought Dread was just as good as Troopers if not better. Gets better and better with repeated viewings. I can see, though, where not everyone would like it. I'm just not sure I understand how we are defining the genre.

Just because a movie contains humor, even lots of humor, doesn't mean it was made as a comedy.

Ooooooooooook! I'm beaten (much the same I'd be beaten if I hit my head against a brick wall repeatedly).

To paraphrase Eddie Murphy quoting the great Richard Pryor:

Does it make the people laugh?
Then have a coke and a smile, and shut the **** up!

This thread is about defining the genre for this poll. Some people already made compelling arguments for including Ghostbusters, so I decided to include it. Other people made less compelling arguments for including American Psycho, so it isn't included.

Ultimately it's a poll, nothing more. If you want to you can wait until the final results are in and a winner is crowned. Then you can print out the page listing the winner, cross it out and write in whatever movie you find really really super funny. This way everyone is happy.

Now to work on the list of at-large bids...

So what you are goign to tell me is that a movie with:

Bill Murray
Dan Aykroyd
Harold Ramis
Rick Moranis

is NOT a comedy? clearly this isn't an attempt at a serious movie.

Ghostbusters is comedy, wether it was funny or not is not my judegment call, but it was definately indended as a comedy.

[/ QUOTE ]

Ghostbusters just ain't an action movie, I'm sorry. That's insane. Any movie that has a giant marshmallow man rampaging through the city counts as a comedy. Just because they try to shoot the marshmallow man with their proton packs doesn't make it an action movie.

And by the way, when someone asks you if you are a god, you say 'YES!'

[/ QUOTE ]

See, this are the kind of compelling arguments I was looking for. Ghostbusters will be included in the poll.

I could make my same argument for Tenenbaums as well.

Owen Wilson
Luke Wilson
Wes Anderson
Bill Murray (I think every movie of his is a comedy, prove me wrong)
Ben Stiller

These guys just don't make non-comedies (and I found this movie to be absolutely hilarious)

and for the record, it is listed as comedy on IMDB, but I don't think thats the end all argument for the genre.

I have no problem with Ghostbusters. But when we include cross-genre movies, people will end up voting for the best movie, not necessarily the best comedy. It's why I think Lebowski being included is wrong, though it's probably my favorite movie ever.

Edit: Removing unsightly quotes. I'm spending way too much time on this.

Swede:

I think Sideways should be considered a comedy. It is very similar to swingers in that it is about friendship and relationships but all of that is brought together by comedic situations. I thought Sideways was very funny and it really was probably the funniest movie of 2004, in my opinion.

Here is a link to some info about it on movies.com that lists the genre as comedy.
