I bet the river, and he mucked.

I'm not sure that an A wouldn't fold in the heat of the river bet here. My image was solid at this table -- I was showing good cards and hadn't gotten out of line or done anything other than basic strategy up until this hand.

Even this fellow was capable, IMO, of laying down a lone A after calling for one more on the turn, trying to spike it on the river. I put him on two little clubs or a straight draw, so I played it accordingly.

I bet the river because, with the odds the pot was laying me, he only has to fold an A once in awhile to make it profitable (of course, factoring in the chance that he also calls with a small pair). Furthermore, I didn't rule out the chance he could have a K with a better kicker, which would make the river check catastrophic.

Thanks for all the responses, was curious as to what folks thought of this line.

Sthief- are you assuming that the turn is a K or 2, when saying to let him bluff 2 big bets? You arent saying that we are snapping off his bluff with k high, are you? Im confused.

K high against a LAG on a 6 high paired board is a strong holding.

"a paired flop (if i remember right) meaning that the other guy probably missed and will just checkfold"

I had a big blind call my flop bet the other day with 4-3 on an 8-2-2 rainbow flop when I had raised pre-flop UTG. And then he called again on the turn when a 9 hit. I had A-K.

Which finished second.
