[ QUOTE ]
He was setting up a punchline, but you didn't follow through!! "I'm actually glad Moneymaker won." "Why?" "So I have less a$$holes like you asking me for my autograph." [/ QUOTE ] Now that's funny. |

Re: What Was Sam Farha Thinking?
At the beginning of the day, Sammy put $10k on MM to win at 72-1.
Ok, so I made that up... |

Re: What Was Sam Farha Thinking?
Sam thinks MM winning the WSOP made B&M games juicier and internet games much juicier. One of my acquaintances (who is an idiot) thought he was turning pro playing 20-40 in AC for awhile. Until he was out of money and out of a gf.

Re: What Was Sam Farha Thinking?
He sees you as a casual fan of poker. The only reason he would say this is to keep you and others interested in the game and to believe guys like you can beat the pros for cash. After all if moneymaker can do it why can't you?

Re: What Was Sam Farha Thinking?
He wants you to think he is a nice guy so you will go to his website and buy crap. Or maybe he really is a nice guy. Either way, there is no way he didn't want to win that tourney himself.

Re: What Was Sam Farha Thinking?
Maybe I'm mistaken, but I was always under the impression that chops were okay'd and confirmed by casino employees. Therefore, if three people chop, the amount of the chop and the amount remaining that they'll play for is determined and recorded. That way, nobody takes an extra tax burden, and everything's kosher with the IRS. Isn't this how it's done? It's not just a oral agreement between two or three people, right? So given that fact, there's no way your theory is correct.

So given that fact, there's no way your theory is correct. [/ QUOTE ] This is absolutely not true. "Under the table" agreements occur all the time. While I'm sure there are instances of the casino being informed of the chop, I know for certain that the Imperial Palace had a $500 buy-in tournament, June 25th, and I met the guy who placed 2nd right after meeting Farha. I told this guy what Farha said, and immediately the guy suggested my theory. He explained that he avoided tax liability himself the weekend before and that the top six finishers had an "informal" agreement to chop...no casino's involved, an agreement they reached during one of the 10 min breaks. |
