Zee is American.

I think everyone else uses Zed but I might be wrong about Australia.

Ok, I'll give you that most are weak. But, for the A-Pathetic... the way I see it is that "A-" as a prefix should be pronounced with a long A sound. Like the word AMORAL... or ASEXUAL. And I did look up ASEPTIC on m-w, and they pronounce it with a long A. So why should APATHETIC be treated differently?

i would guess that APATHETIC is different because A is not being used as a prefix there. i mean it's not like APATHETIC has anything to do with the word PATHETIC. like the word APATHY.

AMORAL...

Comes from MORAL. AMORAL.

ASEXUAL.

[/ QUOTE ]

Comes from SEXUAL. ASEXUAL.

ASEPTIC

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm not sure that ASEPTIC stems directly from SEPTIC.

APATHETIC comes from APATHY, not PATHETIC (though I imagine they all are related to PATHOS).

That's weird. Isn't there a certain british accent where you drop 'h's, or has "My Fair Lady" corrupted my mind?
